Agreed.

Ok, it's 11 years old. Ok, it may have been stored outside for the entire 11 years.

Still wrong though for such a prestigious marque frown

Happened to both of my Aston Martins and they were both driven like Miss Daisy, rarely driven in the wet and treated to dry garages.

It's a manufacturing defect and the paint shop manager at Gaydon should have been sacked years ago. For crying out loud - get some paint on some aluminium and add a top coat. How hard can it be???

I wouldn't buy it either but the paint is just far to common an issue. Mines currently there being repaired for the blistering around the door handle - 16 months old and 7k on the clock not that the mileage makes any difference. This is the second time its been back to have remedial work on the paint, the first time was to remove the buffer trails.

That TV programme on the V12S (the one where they implied it was the first time they'd stuck the V12 in a Vantage) made some claims about the paint and the trouble they go to. Its hard to accept or understand how they go to so much trouble and still get it wrong, it must be the actual process they follow rather than the time they put in.

Jonsv8, please confirm: Yours is a MY 2013?!yikes The latest MY reported here for that problem was, as far as I remember, 2011 or 2012. Seems like nothing has changed?
And what is actually being done one your car for that matter: A repaint of the whole door? Or is there another solution?

Yep - mines a 2013MY, registered in Dec 13 but a stock car and built in Sept 13. Paint bubbling around the passenger door handle, not a lot but but when the dealership took pictures to send to AM for approval she took one look and said it was a pretty clear case. I've not asked exactly what they're doing but its needed for 3 days and its back tomorrow afternoon. I presume its a respray of as much as they need to do to feather it in.

That's crap news Jon. Hopefully the Dealer is pulling all the right strings to get you an acceptable remedy. JCT600 went that extra mile for me on the old DB9 and it was even 3 months out of warranty !!! smile

It's up at Wilmslow and they're also fixing squeaky brakes and the heated seat recall although they now tell me they did the seat fix in Dec which I thought was before the recall was announced.

I thought these foibles were what we loved about Astons smile

Not for me they aren't. Loving my Vantage has been hard at times, although I still do when I'm in it.

Personally I think the paintwork issue along with the other regular issues going on so long is unforgivable .

AM definitely don't work to continuous quality improvement from what I read on here and have experienced.

I sincerely hope the new CEO recognizes that quality is a strategic issue for the brand and not just something nice to have.

yes

To find out they still have pain problems is unforgiveable. The factory talks a lot about continuous improvement - need to action not just talk it. There was a guy in General Gassing a couple of months ago that had just bought a new Aston that had sanding marks etc in the paint. Factory answer was it was within sepcification!

This was the finish from the dealer/factory and I wasn't happy. They had it back and had it detailed it and the buffer trails went

But what really really really pisses me off is that a year later the ceramic protection they put on had worn off in places (fair enough) so I used a very soft pad, anti hologram polish and a days work got the car better than they delivered it... still not paddy spec everywhere but getting close to how it should have been originally

That's my gripe with these so called "protective coatings". They don't seem to last more than 12 months even if you follow the washing instructions to the letter frown

About the DB9 on ebay, is there any claim (never mind documentation) that the car has not been damaged/repainted? I know that too many Gaydon Astons have the bubbling around the door handles and certain other areas, but this car looks far, far worse than any other pics I've seen of afflicted cars. The pic of the wing/bumper shows what looks to me like it could be evidence of a (poor) repaint.

To be clear, I am not attempting excuse the bubbling issue that has occurred on these cars, but rather I am wondering if it's the factory's fault in this specific example. FWIW, the paint on my MY09 V8V remains superb. I hope it stays that way...
