If the car has a proper full and compete Aston Martin service history and has been looked after by one owner form new, then when they come available (which is rare) they offer great value for money. I owned a 22k DB7 GTA for a few years and although she was a lovely car... Unfortunately I did have quite a few niggles with it ALL related to lack of use with the low mileage. So is the garage queen or the maybe only around average mileage daily user at £15000-£20000 LESS the better buy???
Howards car is a lovely example and great value for £30000 :-)

It's been almost a year since this post has been alive. I was just curious how the 106k DB9 was holding up? Have people seen many of these 100k DB9's? I bought an 08 a couple months ago and it's no garage queen. Mine only has 20k now but I drive it a lot and I am just curious about the lifespan of the higher mileage Aston's.

I bought my DB9V (2009 MY 2010) with 55k miles in Jul 2013 as a treat. I drove it regularly to Cardiff and back and put on about 7k miles in the first year, with no problems at all. Now, as my workplace has changed, it sits in the garage and I use it weekends to and from shopping trips. No big trips planned....

Other than the usual wear and tear items, brakes, clutches, bushes, bearings, these AM's should go on for a long time. Its probably been said in this thread and within the last year but if considering a high mileage car (lets be fair 100k in Honda is considered run in) then getting an indi to do cylinder compression tests and other health checks should alleviate any real worries.

Those bills are eyewatering and Im well off. My first car was a brand spanking new golf and it cost my 10165 for a shiny new car. Paying 6 grand for a service and a few minor bits and bobs is a piss take. I couldnt care less what brand of car it is. I can understand paying a premium for a non mainstream car with a large engine as design costs have to be written over fewer units and theres the handmade element but thats debateable if good or not. But how can huge maintainance bills be acceptable? Sure what difference if you service a golf or an aston? Stunning cars though.
Doing a brief google on spare parts prices I saw an airfilter is 200 quid alone for the two elements. For any german car something reputable like a mann filter would be around 25 for two!

You bought a brand new Golf in 2012 for £10,165?

2003 from a new car discounter. Sterling was at a high then combined with eu rules allowing rhd order in Europe and high Uk prices meant it was peanuts.

I can see being an aston owner once they are fully depreciatedand with self or indi maintainance. The big problem is if something fails parts from breakers probably wont be available so its new from aston only.

Hope the DB9 is still going fine. I have no idea where this low mileage myth comes from. Far better to buy a high mileage regularly used and serviced car than a garage queen. Sadly my wife made me hand on my Lotus which I owned for 30 years when my DB9 came along. Lotus has done 300k miles on original engine. Was used as daily family transport, odd sprint, drive to work etc. and once got to know the weak points was totally reliable and only required expected running gear replacements e.g. cam belt, rubber bushes and known weak points like rear drive couplings. But for the last 10 years of ownership annual mileage dropped to few hundred per year and then it always had minor issues. Now my son has it and uses it regularly again no problems.
My DB9 now is used every week (except when salt on roads) for at least 100 miles and never for a trip less than 20 miles. The Aston engines and running gear are designed to handle far more punishment than any of us can hand out on the roads so is normally working at less than 10% of its capability so should with regular use and oil changes last many 100k. The weak points are plastic bits and electrics which will degrade even if not used but it does help to have a bit of mechanical sympathy and not thrash it until warm.

Not quite it actually had 118k miles when I bought it as per an earlier comment.
Had it 18 months loved it but needed to free up some funds for a project so sold it for £500 less than I paid for it & bought an SLK55AMG to tide me over.

Ahh sorry man maths made me go with the number in the thread title. Still £500 is a days hire cost and full respect is still very due smile

When seeing the above yearly bills, my heart literally sank! My dream of owning a 2007/2008 (my budget'ish!) seemed shattered. There is no way I could justify bills like that on any car. Glad to read the comments from you owners. Obviously the previous owners was a very wealthy chap. So, back to my search, GULP!!! I'm guessing buying a DB9 Volante from a specialist such as Mcgurk will give me a safer option!? Anyone?
