Can you tell us what the:

8/. 28/7/10 - £5798.11 - 72009 miles ( not a service)

was for so soon after a "service" that cost £4055.81.

I can't help thinking that once you decide the car is a "keeper" and you know a respected Indy then that is the way to go.

Roll bars deployed & went through window / roof yikes

Roof replaced & roll bars reset all under warranty.

Oops! Was the car on a track at the time?

I'll go through the mountain of invoices this week & list what the car has had over the years so you can see what to expect with high mileage?
If you can be bothered it would be really helpful to see in detail what the car has had each year to add up to some of those bills. If you can't, then just enjoy driving it biggrin

someone get their dates wrong?

9/. 24/6/11 - £5798.83 - 86127 miles
10/. 23/4/11 - £6143.02 - 96971 miles

service 9 then 2 months earlier service 10 and 10k more miles...

Maybe Im missing something and the pain killers have not kicked in and neither has the coffee, but that does not compute.

+1 this is fascinating stuff. Some of those bills look huge so will be really interesting to everyone here.

I can recall a photo on this forum of a DB9 Volante with roll hoops through the rear window.

Don't think the car was your colour though.

Happy to put more details on if it's useful?

No significant engine work completed.

Spoke to the previous owner today really nice guy the rollover hoops deployed when he went over a hump back bridge too fast. He didn't take off but suspension travel was all the way hence they deployed. Happy with that as this resulted in complete new roof. He also had clear lights conversion done at the same time.

He says that he had nothing unexpected in all of its life just consumables & air con condenser.

While some of bills are high bear in mind that absolutely everything has been done at main dealer right down to blown bulbs, new tyres etc.

Liking this story smile Superb that you have contact with a friendly previous owner - I like to see the whites of their eyes (let alone see how the use the clutch) and have rarely been averse to a private purchase because of this with other cars smile

Great that you've got so much detailed history and a friendly previous owner

I'd reckon on setting cash aside for major engine and or transmission work around the 140 to 150K mileage mark hoping it wasn't sooner!

My DB4 engine got to 160K before stripdown and rebuild but was pretty worn and feeble by then, but it had a hard first 10 years without proper service after the first 4 years. I got it around the 110K mark

Wow - this is an eye-opening thread. I considered a leggy/old DB9 when I went shopping with a similar budget two years ago. The relative lack of practicality compared with the XKR I ended up buying put me off the DB9, along with stories of unreliability and body corrosion, but I had no idea that a regularly-used DB9 could throw up those sorts of bills on an annual basis. The Aston Martin is arguably the more desirable car for many people and I wondered whether I'd still end up owning one myself but I'd struggle to justify the ten-fold increase in running costs over my Jaguar.

Glad you're happy with yours though, OP. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy my Jaaag!

New brake pads every 10k miles, is that normal? Was the car a track car?

If pads were more than 50% worn he asked for them to be replaced so that he didn't have to bring in again before next service.
