I don't think it works as the wheels seem to disappear in the the darkness of the wheel arch. I'll be going back to a much lighter chrome colour

Doh! If only you had asked me before having them painted, Mikey.

We could have split the money that you would have saved. (Just joking).

I'm surprised IanV12VR hasn't yet posted a pic of his gorgeous Flugplatz roadster.
It looks even more stunning in the flesh but you get the idea smile

Thanks LBS, I have been watching this one with interest wink

We wouldn't have chosen any other wheel design as we think it suits the colour scheme very well. Silver lightweights would have made the car look a bit of busy with all the other black detailing and CF on the car. However, I agree with Mikey thought that the fabulous detail on the wheels gets hidden in the photos. I think it becomes even more hidden with darker colours but that is down to personal choice.

Black wheels look awful. As soon as the car is driving it looks like it has steel wheels and the hub caps have fallen off.

So we are in agreement that they look classier than chavvy black wheels then?

Depends if you're into hub caps? smile

I think black wheels look great on certain cars and silver wheels look great on others. Re the chavvyness, yep they can be very, very chavvy. As far as Astons are concerned, I think they currently work on V12VS's as they suit the nature of the car. Would they work on a silver DB9 with chrome bits and pieces? Possibly not? I know at some stage mine will end up being dark grey, along with the grille. That should chav it up a bit in a couple of years.

Shadow chrome on the faces of the spokes fading to black on the inner of the wheel can help to give definition back to a black wheel and is good for hiding the brake dust.
Any good wheel refurbisher should be able to give a relatively light spoke face down to jet black for the inner. Not to everyones taste but does IMHO look better than the all black which does loose most of a wheels definition.

Personally not a fan of black but it is of course personal taste.
Mine has bright fronts darker insets, im not in love with them but they do appear clean most of the time.

I like black wheels but apparently I'm a chav.

My rims above normally split opinion

My shopping car 'ASBO' has gloss black

Suum cuique - as a bearded aston owner once said.

That's a given chaps.
However my topic was posted in order to canvas opinions,as well as that I'm not certain on whether I want to have my wheels painted.......still uncertain.
There have been some helpful tips on variations so for me it's been a useful exercise.

i think black (and other) wheels look good on certain colours. Ultimately though if the owner likes it then crack on......I think most of us would agree that there's too much "you shouldn't do that" about, especially when it comes to Astons.........as the saying goes, you pay your money you take your choice.

Absolutely.
However I chose the topic as I knew it would cause a debate,as it has,as previously similar topics have shown opinions to be very devisive.
Anyway thanks for your input.

Why don't you get the wheels on one side of your car painted black, and leave the other side as is. Then you could approach the vehicle from whatever side takes your fancy at any particular moment. When you're driving it you can't see the wheels anyway. Unless you were driving down a narrow street with reflective shop windows on both sides. Then it would be like driving two Astons simultaneously.

I think I might be onto something.....who's in?
