arent, at least according to PH. Why is that? Are they simply too cheap? Or is it that they arent exotic?
OK I am an olf phrrt but in my yoof, Aston was up there with Ferrari and Maserati, not down there with Jaguar. What has changed?
Exotics? Definitely yes.OK I am an olf phrrt but in my yoof, Aston was up there with Ferrari and Maserati, not down there with Jaguar. What has changed?
Supercars? Probably not. At introduction, the top AM models have been and might be classified as supercars, but as time passes and the other players drastically up their BHP, they tend to fall out of that category.
There will be some views on this...
For me, if it looks like one, sounds like one and makes you feel like it's one, then it is one. Add to that mix the numbers on the road - or not! Performance has to be good enough but, as above, it's not the sole criteria as newer cars always go quicker.
I think the term "supercar" nowadays is probably best defined by a very cars in the brands you mentioned plus theirs of Pagani, Koenigsegg. For example the 1-77 in the Aston range is up there as a supercar, as the manufacturers have expanded their model ranges from the one model they produced when I was a kid (think: 1980s!).
Therefore, for me, Aston' Martin meet the criteria as makers of "supercars".
In any case, dome models are rarer than others, but they are all special cars and the design is timeless. All Aston's, new, old or very old will make heads turn and strike up a conversation with a complete stranger....and are lovely things to drive...So I'm not really bothered whether people think it's a supercar or not.

Interesting. I don't think you can say all cars by a certain manufacturer are super. So Ferrari California is for me not a supercar, neither is a boggo 911 or indeed my V8 vantage. La Ferrari - yes, 911 turbo - yes, V12 vantage yes, Datsun gtr no....
I'm not really that bothered about the label, I just love the car. I am also a member of a supercar group despite the fact that I don't consider that my car qualifies....

There's an awful lot of owner's egos being massaged by this term "supercar" For me Ferraris are sports cars like Porsches, Astons and Maseratis. Yes the Ferrari La Ferrari is a supercar as is the Porsche 918 but then so is the One-77. The rest is just owners of everyday Ferraris trying to big themselves up.
I think the definition changes every few years as the game moves on....and some manufacturers ONLY make a supercar or two. Others have a couple of genuine supercars at the top of their range and loads of other models to get people into the brand
A One-77 is certainly a supercar, whereas a Vantage is a very nice sportscar ...at least the way ive got it figured
of course, someone invented the term "hypercar" a few years ago for what used to be supercars, so all those with lesser than "hypercars" could still feel good about their £100k investment

Astons power to weight is poor
They are more varying levels of GT
Even the new "cheap" Mclaren will give a 1-77 a run for its money
V12VS is ~ 313 BHP/ton the 570S is 416 BHP/ton
1-77 is ~460 BHP/ton and the 650S is 478 BHP/ton
Even the "hyper" car can't compete with "super" car
But in fairness to AM they have always majored on GT abilities and the ownership experience

personally for me a supercar has to be 'look at me', mid engined and limited practicality
Ferrai 458 - super car
McLaren 12C - super car
Lambo Gallordo Huracan - super car
Aston Martin any road going production flavour - no
Ferrari FF - no
Porsche 911 turbo - no
P1 -
Aventador
La Ferrari
etc all hyper cars

One-77 is definitely a supercar, wherever the engine sits.
Is a F355 a supercar? Not by any measurable definition today, but probably many people would consider a it a supercar still.
Saw a dark blue Jensen today in London. Looked brilliant and sounded fantastic. Thought that was a super car. If you want head turning, drama, distinctive looks, sound and rarity, that fits the bill.
Anyway, a nice bit of trolling...

Let's play a game. Mix and match these four - Super, Ultra, Mega, Hyper - with these four - Model, Storm, Meal, Car.
My DB9 is none of those. It's an Aston and when you supermegahyperultra pass me in a corner or on the freeway my enjoyment won't be dimenished in the least. If a label makes you happy good for you.
