We need a bit more info to advise you. Are you old and grey spending the whole day in slippers and smoking a pipe (DB9) or are you young, dynamic and sporty (Vantage)? Never quite sure where the Vanquish fits in other than completely out of my league!

Pete is right Geoff, if you are buying on mobility DB9 is for you, if however you still have some of your own teeth its vantage.

You mentioned new.

I expect you know already but just in case, a replacement for the DB9 is due next year. Vantage in two years ( with a Mercedes turbocharged engine ). You might prefer the present engines without turbochargers.

If it's in addition to your 12C then the DB9 would complement it very well. A truly wonderful GT. Aston also do a Volcano Red, so you can have matching cars...the Vanquish has a lot more performance and similar dimensions inside. Worth a consideration.

If it's a sporty replacement to the 12C that you're looking for, then the V12VS would be an entertaining drive! As would the new 8 speed Vanquish...

Would suggest you try all 3. Only rule out the V12VS if you need occasional rear seat(s) for small people.

I have my own teeth and hair. I don't wear slippers! I want something that has grunt, I like to drive my cars. It would be in addition to the McLaren although I am currently fed up to back teeth with it. The main ECU unit plus numerous other codes make car undrivable. But back to the Aston, I love the sound and the look of them. But I genuinely am not sure which one. Too many to choose from!

If you're going to buy new, why not just go down to your local Aston Martin dealer and ask them?

You really do need to drive them. I knew within a few hundred yards that the DB9 was not for me.

Vantage V8S suited me perfectly for now (and then you need to decide for yourself manual or ASMII). Vantage V12S is a little bit more of everything (but forces you down the ASM route).

I have yet to drive a Vanquish but know I would struggle in the 6-speed knowing the 8-speed is out there so depends on your budget.

So, really with the current range it is very simple and the cars very different in character. If you want to factor in earlier models (DBS, Virage, V12 Vantage manual) it gets more complicated.

However it is a deeply personal choice and no-one on here can decide for you. They are all great though and definitely a box you should tick.

Geoff have you considered the V12S Roadster although your stuck with the ASM3 paddle's I'm sure an enthusiast with your driving experience would soon master the art.

Considering you still have your own teeth and you are also blessed with hair you'll also look the part with the roof down, now as for the grunt you'll have more than enough
to put a pig farm to shame.

Might not be you bag but worth a test drive in both the Coupe and the wind in your hair version,if it don't float your boat proceed to the DB9.2 and collect your slippers
at reception at handover.

Great dilemma to find yourself in all the same, enjoy the hunt……….smile

All the V12 cars have grunt, plenty of torque and, as you say, great sound.

My Virage doesn't feel lacking in performance, even when just getting out of a 12c. It's just a different car for different purposes. So I'd imagine a DB would be a great choice. The 8 speed Vanquish really shouldn't go untried either though.

All of them have CCBs, which for me, are excellent stoppers and have very good feel.

Comparing the 12C Iris...Some on here grumble about SatNav, but the latest models have a garmin system, which seems to work just fine for me, only the occasional minor detour. And it works! Never had it crash in my near 3 years of ownership.

I'm sure a dealer would be happy to help you try the cars out.

Whereabouts are you based? The dealer network is pretty well distributed across the country and you should be able to get recommendations on the better ones from folk on here.

The DB is not a pipe and slippers car! I protest at such slanderous comments smile
It doesn't scream for onlookers attention, people are just magnetised by its stunning charms.
People just accept that you are a confident, successful and well adjusted human being who knows they have nothing to prove... biggrin

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to have a word or three with some dealers. See what they have in or whether it's a build to order and get myself a test drive.

Mike,

Your riposte about the slippers and the 9 where all going well and I was taking it all in nicely especially as you must remember the 9 was my last years
must have steer...yes.

As I said all was going well on my re-education of the 9 until I read "Well adjusted human" and that then immediately ruled me out…………biggrin

Joking aside OP get down your local dealership for the day, roll your sleeves up and try the lot.

I can think of worse ways of spending a day….smile

As well as our lovely Bob with his very own volcano!

That little motor of yours looks fab mate. Good to see all the pics of your travels. Hopefully will post mine up starting next weekend.

Yes - OP get in all 3 of them, they're cracking cars, each with their own 'personality'. Let us know how you get on with them.

All the best.

Really hope the weather holds for you guys.

Even if I could afford a new Aston I would be looking at a low mileage, manual V12 Vantage.

You don't mention budget and as the range stretches(new)from 85-200k+ (pre-discount)it will be a factor smile! Budget aside, from your response above I would say a V12 Vantage S maybe your best fit, but to review all the options click herewink
