DBS (2009) SatNav query
Discussion
Hi,
I've been trying to find out how I can update the SatNav in my 2009 DBS, and although there seems to be lots of different threads on the subject of the Volvo SatNav, I can't find anything specific for the DBS.
My questions are:
- What model SatNav is in the 2009 DBS? (I've read that there is a HDD version, but not sure which one is in the 2009 model - is it the same for all DBS' in fact?)
- If it is HDD based, where is this located? (or do you just put the disks in the auto-changer in the dash)
- What is the latest update available for the 2009 DBS, and can you get UAE updates? (I'm hoping so, as the roads are pretty much unrecognisable now, compared to the 2009 maps)
- Where can these updates be obtained? (I've heard that AM only do map updates, but I'm after the functionality and map updates, so not sure where to go)
I've contacted Volvo directly in the UAE, but I'm not holding out much hope of a reply, as that just seems to be the way in this region!
Any help appreciated!
Regards,
Scott.

For an MY09 you will have the DVD based system. Go to www.volvocars.com/navi pretend for a minute you have a Volvo XC90 MY07- buy dvd, insert into aston martin, follow instructions on satnav screen. Job done.

Not sure this is correct as I'm sure I have the HDD system which is under the rear n/s passenger seat. Although I don't have rear seats AMDBSNick said:
Have you asked the AM dealer
I'm based in the UAE (Dubai), so if you've ever had the displeasure of dealing with them over here, you'll know that they're absolutely useless! Also, I've read that AM only provide map updates, but I'm after the functionality updates that Volvo provide, apparently!mrpseudonym said:

Excellent, that sounds like the advice that I need! Did they change to an HDD-based system after the 2009 model release then? AMDBSNick said:

Don't be silly, Im sure that he only wants to get hold of a 'backup' copy of the disc, not buy full price for a new one!
Ha... no, happy to buy the updates, but I just want to know that I'm getting the functionality as well as the map updates, and from what I've read so far, AM only do the maps... and they're stupidly expensive - quelle surprise!Scottsanders said:

yes AMDBS Nick, you are factually correct, it is in fact the HDD system which takes the DVD.. have just gone through this process for my 09 DB9
Ahh, OK - I'm pretty sure that the battery is under one of the rear seats, but not sure about the other one - it has a lever for disengaging the automatic transmission (moves from P to N) and then a cover that doesn't look that easy to remove - certainly no auto-changer or anything... is the HDD connected to the auto-changer in the dash, or is it a separate system in the DBS? I can see the battery under the metal cover, so pretty sure it's not tucked in there with that.
I'm not sure what's under the black plastic cover. It certainly doesn't come off easily, so if somebody can advise if this looks right, I'll get some tools, but don't want to remove it unnecessarily, as there's a lever for disengaging the automatic transmission tucked in very close to it, so don't want to inadvertently cause issues with the gear box.

Hi
Pull the carpet away on the front of the rear seat on the right hand side facing the vehicle it is held by velcro, opposite side to the battery. It is right at the bottom just above the floor there is a slight protusion at the base , can't remember if it pulls up or pushes down ..then the disk is ejected.

Bingo! Thanks very much - doesn't help that my owner's manual is in Arabic, as I'm sure it's in there somewhere... currently waiting to get hold of an English version, so thanks for all of your help.pull the carpet away on the front the rear seat on theright hand sid facing the vehicle. Scott I have the full workshop manual for the DBS. Just trying to remember which back up disc it is on (its rather large). As soon as I have found it I will email it to you Scott.
