I was re reading the final inspection thread the other day..http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1043857

and it got me wondering if there was any correlation between cars that had the paint 'bubbling' issues and who did their final inspection..

Shall we try and find out?

For me, Barry Griffin - no paint issues

No, it's more likely to be who was doing the painting.

Final inspection would have had the paint already applied.

+1 and I've had paint issues but I also agree its more likely to be the man prepping the car before painting as there was nothing to see come final inspection time.

Maybe a function of the paint itself? Mine is Onyx black.

I don't think the colour plays a part, it's just a lottery as to if and when you have it appear.

I'm sure you're right, I was musing over whether different colours had different hardness or chemical composition and different colours absorb heat differently which may result in more significant temperature changes. Incorrect prep is of course more true to their current reputation

It might...

Some colours are hand sprayed and others machine sprayed. Mako blue and lightning silver are hand sprayed and I've been told they have this problem less than other colours..

They are yes (all "pearls" are hand sprayed apparently a robot can't get the effect right)
But just as susceptible in my experience frown
