Does that mean sixteen GT12 cars have been destroyed?

No, that's the point. The GT12 is a Vantage GT12 - so it's not a new model and therefore does not get crash tested. If you have a new model name and designation then it's a new car.

As a really simple example, if you crash test a 4.3 V8 and then you fit a new fabric to the seats you don't re-test. If you fit a new bumper and associated crumple structures you do retest. AML has been good at getting as much mileage as possible from the crash testing done. But you cannot take the mickey too much!
How did Zagato get round that ? Or is that your allusion to 'pushing things' in getting away with calling it a vantage derivative, which name aside, is essentially what DB10 appears to be. And I wonder what they have done about Taraf ?
Zagato - I don't know whether that was crash tested or not. One thing to check it the V5 - what does it say in section D.2? Here's some explanation of the V5 D.2 http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group1/info/car_tax/

I believe Taraf has a different wheelbase to Rapide so it's clearly a new car and therefore they will carry out crash testing.

DB10 is a Vantage derivative - same engine, gearbox, torque tube, suspension, just a new body. Remember that someone used to have a video to show how easy it is to remove the body from the VH platform (the reverse of marriage as they call it in the factory). So the body panels can just be removed and replaced with a nice new suit of clothes...

But if you give it a new model name then it's a new model isn't it?

The Zagato doesn't comply with USA standards. I'm pretty sure it wasn't crash tested. The few Zagatos in the USA are here using the Show and Display exemption.

I'm not going to use common sense to guess what the law states ! :-)

But I wouldn't take for granted that a new name necessarily means a new model for crash testing purposes

Do you think Jonby, that the cinema DB10 not being made available to customers (not happened before), is because the timing of Spectre did not fit with the AML timetable of new models?
Nope - I don't think the timing is at all relevant. It's not that difficult to re skin an Aston Martin and DB10 was designed with some influence from Sam Mendes, implying the way it looks is plot related. We've already seen in trailers that Q has been busy fitting a few optional extras. Yes, the new grille may be a nod to future design but I still think it looks like a shark for a reason.

Maybe the sun is getting to me a little as I post this from Nortern Sardinia, just up the road from where the scene with the lotus diving into the sea was filmed for The Spy Who Loved Me.
