Last year I saw in the ads a low mileage DBS volante in a "niche" colour that I really liked at a fair price (not cheap but reasonable).
However the dealer had a "reputation" for being "awkward".
The car was 200miles away and I just didn't feel comfortable with the possible aggravation if there was a problem.
Gave them a ring and was offered a low figure for my car.
So what with that and his reputation I went with my gut feeling and walked away.

Again , I do appreciate ALL feedback and can clearly see an argument to walk away as well as a good reason to work towards the purchase.

Keep your thoughts coming, I plan to make a decision on Friday and will either walk away or make a counter offer to their final price and see if I can get some movement.

I'll also ask to be emailed a photocopy of the V5C.

Just a question, if I was to go ahead, car is delivered for the inspection and passes ok. The plan would be for me to collect the car from the Independent so avoiding the need for the selling dealer to collect the car again (sounds a better plan in my book) - So how would I pay for the car and ensure V5C has been sent away and the Service Book is in my hands.

I doubt the selling dealer will just leave the service book in the glove compartment when they take if for the inspection and as for the V5C do you think I'll just need to make the journey to the seller and only pay when I see the V5C completed, posted and get a receipt for the purchase.

Thoughts.. ?
So how is this drama unfolding? Any exciting news from the weekend???

Stalemate to be honest.

Still in talks but the Sellers are sticking at £65k, I'm not interested in the car at that price. It could very well be a good one , but for me the fact remains the car sold for £66.5k in February/March 2014 from an AM Dealer with a warranty and an up to date service history. in my mind it's worth less than £65k now.

Exactly. If it flies through an inspection, they get it serviced at an AML dealer (or even a good indie) and pay for a year of AM extended warranty on it then £65K is fine. If not, it's got to be at least £3K less than that.

Touché.

And there in hangs the reason (probably) it has been floating for so long…

I feel for you, chap, but it could well be for the best. I argued for ages with a Land Rover dealer over a Range Rover, but he wouldn't budge. It was a couple of £k difference between us, but he wouldn't shift, so I took my money elsewhere. Funnily enough he rang me a few weeks later asking if I was still interested. I took great delight in telling him I'd bought something else that was more expensive elsewhere… It's odd, that particular dealer just had an expectation that sat higher than the vehicle was worth and seemed most put out that I thought otherwise. It's almost as though they don't think that in today's era of the internet one is going to actually see what is available elsewhere, and possibly buy it.

It's a difficult road to get what you feel is good value - best of luck with your continuing search!

Bit of thread resurrection but I think this car has popped up again, but £22k more expensive.

Still like the colour, but it seems to have done the rounds, without an owner for a while. Stratstone, Motorhub and now Sytner. It's only done 400 miles since Nov 2013, what a waste of a car.

The price currently reflects the market value IMO. As for why it won't shift - I think this must be because it's sat with multiple independents. I'm kind of surprised no one from the dealer network has snapped it up, warrantied it and stuck it up for sale. Whoever bought it at the 60k mark has made a nice little sum that's for sure.

You're right on the market value, any chance of an impromptu recession impacting only red astons? biggrin

I don't think it is the same one as it had a lighter interior unless it has had a re upholster smile

I think I'm in love...

My dream v12 colour and spec.

Now all I need to find is the 50k difference between this and my V8V trade in!

Though my little ol' v8 has 10k fewer miles despite its greater years!

Yes, that's that one thing in particular (apart from the red colour obviously) that I remember: the light interior with lightweight seats.

There may be more than one indeed...

Nick - I don't have too much on this Magma Red V12V (S00304). I only have the one reg OU59CVV. This car is one of eight Magma's on my register and the only other Magma Red V12V with Phantom Grey interior is S00008.

The only notes I have on it are that it was for sale at Stratstone AM Amersham @ 32428m for £69991 then £72565 then £66476 during the period October 2013 - February 2014.

HTH and good luck.
See above my post from last year. The car discussed last year was no.304 but that doesn't have B&O, neither does no.8. However no.286 in magma has B&O and was for sale at Top 555 Ltd, Rutland @ 14600m, £84950, July 2012 so I'm guessing it's this one. This car was owned by Alan Ayling who was a PH member on here.

Alan sold the car maybe 2 years back now,I believe it was first supplied by Cheltenham if my memory serves me right.

Alan attended the V12 day we had at Works Service on the 17th of April 2011.

Have a look at Shmee's heady work as he was there with his camera in the days before Shmee TV really took off.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcW0czLH-dQ

You will see the said beast at about 47 seconds.

Enjoy.

NB, I seem to have gotten even rounder since that day……..rolleyes
