I've used JCT in Leeds without issue. Your nearest Indy from there is Bridge Mill Motors (see FAQs) smile

Thanks Jockman - so if i get as far as inspection time....What would be the general consensus ?

Get the inspection done by Bridge Mill or do i go Main Dealer ?

I know i have to go main dealer if i do put the extended warranty on the car but I'm not against to using a recommended independent for the inspection and then using an independent down near me for future work.
The Independent near me is no cheaper than a main dealer but I chose not to renew the extended warranty on my current car (for the 3rd time) as it seems to cover less and less as the years go by (My car is a 2008 V8 Vantage Roadster with 67k on the clock).

I know it's all down to personal preference re: risk - but having the car inspected by the right people will make the decision a lot easier...and of course if it's a bad car then all i've lost is the cost of the inspection.

I do believe that's the same one, especially if it was at Amersham in late 2013. There can't be that many floating around! It was a while ago now, but remember the car had the sort of feeling that it had been mercilessly thrashed and left a touch 'unloved'. The generally poor presentation of all their cars put me off a bit, TBH, and this was no exception. As an aside, I also can't stand the CF seats! I'm 6'3" and very much dislike not being able to adjust the rake of the seat without changing the squab angle. Some people rave about them, though...

I'm sure this car has been for sale for about 2 years now. Who are the previous owners? If a hire company or track day company I think I would avoid it.

Personally, I definitely wouldn't rely on the Dealer 140 point check if buying this and would get the most reputable indy to inspect it to within an inch of its life on their terms. Why won't the dealer let it go off site to be inspected? I don't just say this randomly but when I bought my first V8V the 140 point check missed a slipping clutch and a leaking gearbox oil cooler - no really, honestly and totally (PM me if you want to know which dealer in the west of London).

I suspect BR have most experience of dealing with catastrophic V12 engine problems so personally, if it were me considering this car (and a year or so ago I fleetingly did), then that is where it would go for an inspection.

Good luck and don't forget that a new set of CCM front discs costs more than a small car. Personally, I went the route of a manual SP10 with Lightweight seats rather than a V12V and am very happy with that choice (even if it is lacking 4 cylinders!!)

Car has had two owners, first registered keeper was a person then the second registered owner was a limited company that bought the car on 28/02/2014.

If i could verify that a service was done whilst the car was at Stratstone Amersham at 32440 miles 11/10/2013 - then it means the Limited Company second owner that bought the car did approx 1500 miles before the car went back into the trade.

I've googled the car number plate - but unfortunately no hits , Amersham did say it was not on that plate when they had it - so obviously a private plate - just wish i knew what it was !

Who keeps the V12 Register , perhaps they have more info on the Magma Red car ? I have the first owners name if that helps ?

To be honest if i don't do the V12 route i cant see me spending another £30k for a newer V8. I appreciate it will be a totally different car but i think i would either hold on to what i've got (which i absolutely love) or maybe it;'s time to swap for something a little different.

In the meantime, i do acknowledge the many risks involved in looking at this car - I had a shoulder operation 3 days ago so can't drive for the next 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, I'm keeping myself occupied and took the plunge to look inot this car in detail after having viewed the advert for the last year. i just wish i'd had the balls (and funds) to buy the Hammerhead silver one at Works a few months ago !

I would suggest that with the doubts you have about the car, it might be better to look at a lower mileage, newer V12V from an Aston Martin franchised outlet. It might be more expensive, but you don't want to be worrying about a cars history......

I think the V12 Register just contains specification details of each car.
End digits of the VIN, colour, etc., so probably any entry for this car, would not provide additional information for you.

This car seems to be accompanied by many concerns, and whoever eventually buys it, will now also be stuck with having information on the internet.

Best wishes for a good recovery after your operation.

Buying an Aston should be a joyous experience.
Spending £65K on a car with a "suspect" service history from a dealer with a dubious reputation is not for me a recipe for joy.
At the very least even if you are lucky and the car is ok you will probably take a hit when you try to sell it.

Points well noted , I blame the painkillers and feeling like I'm away with the fairies half the day smile

Will do a little more investigation, at least I have the luxury of owning a beautiful Aston already ! So if the V12 Vantage dream is out of my reach then it's not a 3rd world problem smile

However it's the longest I've owned a car and no matter how much i tell myself that I won't get anything that compares for the money - I still find myself drawn to the classifieds and especially the last few days when I've had so much time on my hands.

Keeps my mind off the shoulder pain a little anyway !

At 65k anyone would be tempted but on top of the dubious garage which can fill an afternoons internet forum search reading, the thing that would get me is driving to Wilton, FoS, Sunday Service and people walking past in the know saying "so he bought it, good luck with that!".

You see Petop that wouldn't bother me , because I'll only buy if the car checks out 100% and i got it at a great price.

Funnily enough the only car i ever bought without a full documented service history was my 55 plate Vantage Coupe. At the time i owned a Porsche 911 C4S Cabriolet and if you had said to me the day before, I would have sworn i wasn't gonna change car.

But the Aston was on SOR at a garage known to me - the owner was a "Mr Bond" (i promise you). Some time later i found out he was a member at my golf club! and the car had done i think it was just over 4000 miles in the 3 years between Jan 2008 and Feb 2011 when i bought it and had not been serviced in that time.
I had it inspected and paid just over £30k for a 29,000 mile Tungsten Silver Vantage coupe. I sold the Porsche to a guy local to me about 10 minutes after i posted the advert that evening....Pistonheads classifieds rocks smile
Aston was serviced , I had new tyres put on it and owned it for 14 months - I only sold it as the Roadster was for sale local to me and of course i was working from home that day too - with too much time on my hands again ! The first person to view the Aston bought it.
Some time later i even found an EVO magazine article online which showed the car was actually first run by them and detailing running costs / life with the car etc etc....and the car had had a few niggles early on that i knew nothing about of course.

Perhaps you'll find the following of use. This is the car that was sold by Amersham at the beginning of 2014. I was interested to see it so stopped by when nearby but it had just been sold and left the premises. I happened to have downloaded their pictures with the reg number as the image name OU59CVV.
It was for sale at £66,476 with 32,428 miles on it.
It reappeared for sale 3 months later with 34,000 miles on it priced at £69,989.
I thought it very strange the owner kept it for only 3 months so didn't pursue it any further but of course it could just be for a simple reason like they weren't comfortable in the seats.

Nice as that red car is (unusual colour, caught my eye a few times too!), I'd keep my powder dry until it's cold, wet and wintery. You'll be able to get warrantied main dealer car for that price. Obviously if it checks out 100% and you get sub 65k then all well and good and you've got a good deal. smile

GPH - fantastic , thank you. That makes sense as the car was purchased by the second owner on 28/02/2014 (but in the name of a limited company).

It looks lovely in the photos. I'm guessing this means the car must indeed have been serviced before being sold and an AM Extended warranty put on the car.

I'm awaiting a call back from Stratstones Amersham - they must be able to give me more information on the car than they provided yesterday - which was that they had seen it but no record of a service - let alone being sold there !

this car was also the subject of an excellent detailing to restore the paint a few years back so its a shame it was not kept up to this standard. although the plate is fuzzed out you can see it says CVV in one of the front shots.
