You are correct but don't forget this has 34k on it so higher mileage than anything else currently being sold and it's a 2009 car.
It also doesn't have full service history - sellers have had the car over a year and it was last due a service in October 2014.

I can still see the point in going through with this though.........But............

The car was advertised for £66.6k and subsequently sold in Feb 2014 at Stratstones AM , this means the car would also have come with an AM extended warranty ( which is worth another £2k ).

I think the prices at the moment are high as it's summer, plus of course the cars advertised are all newer with lower miles.

I'm gonna take a little time to think about this, the selling dealership frightens me to hell to be honest. This may well be a good car but there's a big 'if' he and I don't think it's worth more than £63k to me.
I was looking at having the independent inspection done , then purchasing if all was ok. The. The car would immediately then need a service (so that 's +-£1,250).
Depending on the Bridge MIll inspection I would then have had the 140 point check done at AM and an extended warranty on the car for the first year (another £2k). At some point in the next few months I would then take the car to Bamford Rose and had a further inspection done to highlight any warranty work that should be done by AM and also to get a second opinion on the car.

Selling dealership are pared for the car to go to Bridge Mill in Macclesfield for inspection , they will not consider Bamford Rose due to the distance. The first few phone calls over the last week they wouldn't even consider an inspection of the car offsite !
The mileage is nothing
The missed service is neither here nor there. Mine missed its first service, did it affect the recent bid from Works, not a jot
I have never paid £1,250 for a service
I wouldn't bother with warranty but that's just me
CCM's don't need to be weighed. A visible check will confirm their condition. I know I've had some new ones frown
Whilst we all accept the dealer has had some bad press is this not the nature of the web?? People only ever post up the bad ste!!!!

At the end of the day though, its your cash yes

How much is a new V12 engine? Does the Indy know about the V12 death rattle, and how to check?
How much are a complete set of brakes - excluded by the dealer from the deposit refund?
Why is it so much cheaper?
Why has the selling dealer got such an awful reputation?
You used to be such a cheery fella before you gave up the booze biglaugh
Really?
Thought I always was a miserable tt! wink

I admit I haven't read every post - however, if this thread is still talking about the dealer mentioned in the original thread, then be careful.

I have seen mention of a company with the same name (the old name, not the new one) many times - and there has been enough that I wouldn't consider a car from them.

With the concerns over the retailer, treat the purchase as per private - if the car is good and checks out to your satisfaction (eg. HPI, Bridge Mill inspection, usual paperwork checks), buy it and expect nothing in the way of back-up from the dealer.

You know exactly what you're getting then and if it requires some TLC, that can be done over the coming months. Realistically the selling season is nearing it's end and if you're their strongest prospect that puts you in a good position to negotiate a deal.

I'm with you, Speshul..........

I believe the storage of this car is indicative of how it has been looked after. Previous dealership history would also concern me.

Again , I do appreciate ALL feedback and can clearly see an argument to walk away as well as a good reason to work towards the purchase.

Keep your thoughts coming, I plan to make a decision on Friday and will either walk away or make a counter offer to their final price and see if I can get some movement.

I'll also ask to be emailed a photocopy of the V5C.

Just a question, if I was to go ahead, car is delivered for the inspection and passes ok. The plan would be for me to collect the car from the Independent so avoiding the need for the selling dealer to collect the car again (sounds a better plan in my book) - So how would I pay for the car and ensure V5C has been sent away and the Service Book is in my hands.

I doubt the selling dealer will just leave the service book in the glove compartment when they take if for the inspection and as for the V5C do you think I'll just need to make the journey to the seller and only pay when I see the V5C completed, posted and get a receipt for the purchase.

Thoughts.. ?

Nick,

So long as you trust Bridge Mill surely you would go to the dealer and pay ensuring all paperwork is correct and then go get the car.

Ignore Jockman, he is a complete and utter Bell End biggrin

Jockman has a view that I'm inclined to agree with.
As I understand it the main reason for the OPs interest is that the car is £20K underpriced ,is that not the case ?
Therefore,as long as the car checks out on inspection and with due diligence, I can understand the appeal.
The car has a relatively high mileage in an "unusual" colour and uncertain history from a dealer with a suspect reputation.
The OP has had a lot of helpful advice from forum contributors and, apart from us paying if anything goes wrong, this topic has surely come to a conclusion.

hehe cutting
I contemplated a punt on this one earlier in the year, sensible head and a walk round "that" dealers forecourt convinced me otherwise.
Do you home work, get the inspection, go in eyes open - that will minimise the risk.

I buy a lot of antiques. There are some dodgy, lying, cheating dealers out there but it does not mean that everythng they handle is a bag of ste.

As Mikey says, feet on ground, eyes wide open, everything on its merits and treat it as you would a private sale. Don't get emotionally attached or buy because it just because it is cheap.

I always thought this was/is a good looking car but know no more than that.

Buy cheap
Buy twice

Walk away

Wait til December

Buy a nice one from an Approved Franchised Retailer

You should only be buying at the bottom end of the market for a private purchase

A dealer is not stupid. The car is cheap for a reason

I don't think it's cheap, considering: niche colour and high mileage (for a V12). It's good value at £65k - not a steal.
