Hi All,

My mate is currently considering adding to his stable and has been lurking whilst considering a DB9,he's found one he likes the look of in the classified ad's and is now looking
for a bit of help and advice regarding this particular example.

It looks magnificent in the pictures and he's at a point of making a very long journey to take a closer look but would appreciate any feed back from the forum prior to the trip, does anyone
know the car or its background or indeed the vendor who is a new one to us.

Please have a look and tell us what you think, its the Torro Red DB9 Coupe being advertised at Richtoy Motorsport in Shorpe.

www.richtoy.co.uk

At 45k he's not really baulking but is thinking about AM Warranties and independent inspections etc as add on's which all run expensive considering the vendor wants to hold firm currently on his pricing.

It would be a straight forward cash purchase so any thoughts on where to pitch a fair price beings it not at a AM Dealership although the price would make you think so.

Any thoughts, advice and help regarding the vehicle 'warts and all' along with any inspection suggestions would be a great help thank you.

One last thing please, what is the aluminium square panel in the boot………..confused,it's got me beat.

could even be a sub, but its where the old vanish used to have its amp.

Looks like its had a front end respray too. Just because it doesn't look like there is a mark on it in the pics

Paddy

The advert claims it's got Venture Shield, but it doesn't say where or how much and when it was applied.

All in all I bet your right hence we are hoping to find someone that knows of the car as like you can see the pictures are very tempting.

We flat landers know little of this magic they call photoshop…..rolleyes

Aftermarket sub in the boot.....45 k way too much money for 06.... Esp in red with aftermarket bits....you should be looking at late 30's.....if mint 40 top whack....a quick look in the classifieds will confirm....also confirm blue tooth....I suspect it was a SIM card holder up to model year 07?.... I may be wrong....but still over priced in my opinion....

Agree with Tony - it looks a nice example and low mileage. But it's over-priced by 5k, especially as not coming from an AM dealer.

Looks like a belter from the pictures. Not sure about DB9 prices as I'm nowhere near old enough to consider one yet (suspect I will go straight from Vantage to Vanquish when the time comes hehe) but as a non-franchise dealer, not offering AM warranty they have to accept that they can't charge the same prices IMHO. Or …… they can put it through the 140 point inspection and get an AM warranty on it then sell it at the same price. Simple!

The four buttons in front of the armrest mean heated front screen and mirrors. Important to check these work as this is an expensive fix…

Not an AM original umbrella in the boot.

Need to check the tyre kit and possibly airbags as these have a 10 year shelf life.

The amp in the boot would suggest the appalling Linn stereo has been tinkered with - make sure the interface has been done properly, because it is not as simple as just bunging in a new head unit from Halfords.

Check the sat nav has an updated disc - easy to tell if you can get a full postcode option. Early set ups only let you do the first bit - e.g. SW1.

Heated screen, iirc, means heated seats. Check these work. Not sure if the 'chariots of fire' recall extends to this car or not, but worth checking.

Full service history.

No juddering or pulling under heavy braking (possible sign of warped discs)

Tyre wear should be even across the whole tread, check particularly the fronts.

Under front splitter for speed bump damage.

Seat bolsters for wear (esp driver's side)

Seat belts to full extension for good retract and any wear - I have seen the edges fray on an early DBS…

Get a year's AM warranty and about £7k off the asking price and you are onto a winner.

Good Luck!

Nice car, but that asking price seems high to me. That's main dealer price area, with associated warranty etc.

Nice colour (but I would say that). I paid south of 40k for one the same colour with 5k miles more a couple of months ago.
Get an inspection if he's serious that may help negotiate the price when the seller / buyer realises what may need doing.

Make sure he drives others for comparison and as others have said make sure everything works.

Different colours can be harder to find, but there is less to choose from than a grey one.

Well over £5k over priced without AML Warranty. Pre 2007 facelift too.
Nope.

Box in the boot is a Genesis multi channel amp (NOT a sub) it will likely have been used to "hijack" the outputs of the Linn HU, amplify them and throw it at much better speakers, its also got an Ipod cable in the console
Does seem over priced though frown

Richtoy is actually in Winterton which is 4 miles north east of Sunny Scunny. I'm a Winterton lad and have had several cars from Richtoy. The garage has been built up from scratch by Richard and Toyne over the past 15 years or so and they have now started dabbling in the upper end of the car market. Over the past 18 months or so they've had some not too bad motors coming through occasionally.

The DB9 in question is Richards personal car and has alwsys looked immaculate on the few times ive seen it out and about. I would say the car looks every bit as good in the flesh as the photos and knowing Richard will have bern maintained with money no object attitude. As for pricing I cannot really comment, anything is only worth what someone us willing to pay for it at the end of the day.

I would say though, if you call about the car then ask to speak to Toyne or Richard and im sure neither would mind having a chat with your freind about it as they're both cracking chaps and very approachable.

Thank you Ben for your helpful insight .

I can't currently raise my mate but I will when he surfaces pass on your comments and those previously posted by the forum at large.

I do however believe that the vendor has spoken with my friend at the point of his initial enquiry and that was were the rigidity in price came from, also I don't believe he was made aware
that it was a personal car of the Company Director, but that I will need to clarify.

I must admit the motorcar looks mint in the pictures but at 45k it is still leaning heavily toward the top end of AM Dealership territory,if sensible common ground regarding the price
was in the offering maybe a ride out would be in order but not as it currently stands at the 45k.

If as the dealer mentioned it was fresh to stock and hence his price stance it may well get written down as the weeks go by unless of course a gung-ho must have it walks into
the show room laden with cash….biggrin

yep exactly the same in my db9. All black on the canopy and a little logo on the silver handle. Suspect the umbrella might not be a deal-breaker though smile

Phew …… deal's back on.

Seriously though, who gives a flying fk about the umbrella? It was a £140 ridiculous option (which my SP10 also has - V2.0 btw) for people who like ticking boxes.
