This looks like fun.

Scotland's stunning answer to Route 66 is named one of the top coastal road trips in the world - just two months after it was launched

I can't recommend a car hire place, but would offer this piece of advice.
Make sure your windscreen wipers are working as its been pissing with rain up here for weeks now.

Perhaps it will stop raining in August!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes I got rained out a few weeks ago frown
That route is great (done most of it several times)
But the Wester Ross coast road is a PITA single track with LOTS of blind bends
And they miss loads of great roads on the interior of the Highlands like on my fav A road the A836
Two of those photos aren't on the route pictured either hehe

JB. I don't read 'General Gassing' just the Aston Forum because I have one. I posted it on here as I am aware that 'Aston' forum members often have a tour around the Scottish Highlands as I am from the 13 - 20 Aug.

I don't see why an Aston owner would want to 'Hire a car' do do the route, its perfect for our Astons.

Suggest you try OchHertz. They are usually very helpful.

Will posting in the wrong forum be detention, or just 100 lines?
Thank you for your helpful guidance to us.

Have you any AML questions?

How high are you hoping to go Dave……..?.

If you get up the top end near Thurso the Queen Mothers former home the "Castle of Mey" is a nice little stop off.

Did this in a discovery 4 between Xmas and new year (hence discovery !!)

However most of Scotland was closed at this point the only thing that saved us was wetherspoons in Wick and Kinloch lodge for a couple of days over new year.

and nearly bought a house there !!

Worth staying at http://www.kinloch-lodge.co.uk/

Last day was from Wick to inverness and I was very glad we had the disco when we woke up to a white world and long journey !!

Had an amazing time

This is great, I'd love to take my kid there this summer holidays. Will look into it.

Only slight downer is the 1,200mile / 20hr round trip to get to inverness and back to get onto the route.
