Please can anyone pass comment on the difference in exhaust note between DB9 (I have 2008 Volante if important) and a DBS.

Thanks

Daniel

World of difference between the two. DBS is very aggressive sounding, while DB9 is rather muted. You drive a 9 and think how great it sounds, then you jump into an S and you perspective on 'sounds great' changes immediately.

DBS much more aggressive - particularly with Fuse 22 removed biggrin It really allows the engine to breath more, and sounds so much better than the DB9 which sounds great on startup doesnt sound as good as the S when pressing on!

I own a 2007 DB9 and thought is sounded pretty good. It does indeed sound quite pleasant especially with the valves open. However I very recently drove a DBS and OMG what a difference. The DBS from the turn of the key is twice as loud as my 9 and it only gets better as you drive it. It may even be too loud for some, but I loved it. The only problem is the DBS costs twice as much as my DB9.

Theres a reason - they were £80k more than a DB9 new... for a start.
All the little things and changes add up. 510 bhp rather than I believe 450/460bhp.
See Jeremy Clarksons review on the DB9 in comparison to Bentley GT Supersports and 599 GTB.
DBS is still a GT car though.
Manual is better than a Touchtronic, but if you do long distance travels some prefer the Touchtronic.

Was it really £80k more than the DB9 when new, I thought it was more like £50k. Either way it matters not and it really is one of my favourite Astons.

£182,784 for Coupe
£192,784 for Volante

Cant find DB9 price - but you are probably right £120-£130k new at the time - I thought it was £110k new for some reason.

Has anyone identified whether the different exhaust note is purely down to the exhaust system, and if so, which components? Cam timing and induction changes can also have an effect. Has anyone tried installing a DBS exhaust onto a DB9 to see if it makes that much of a difference?

Changes in compression could also have an effect so interested to see if anyone has narrowed it down.

Probably just the rear silencer though!

I've ordered a DBS backbox so I'll tell you when it arrives and I get a chance to fit it!

So were you able fit the DBS back box to a DB9? If so any improvement in sound.

I have a Quicksilver Supersport back box from a DBS fitted to my 9, so yes they do fit.

The sound is awesome.

Yes it's a straight swap. Noise is much deeper. Louder on "valve open" and actually quieter on "valve shut". I'll try and post before and after video.

Does anyone want a DBS sports back box in exchange for a standard DBS one? Mines too loud with the secondary decat
