...I last met one at the Silverstone Classic, a chap dripping more than a knackered tap about everything from his drive in to the catering. He even complained about his experience of driving his Aston on a lap of the track. I actually found this highly amusing and as I had no association with him what so ever save our hosts I took great delight in taking a contrary position to his at every opportunity. After I'd said how much I enjoyed the food, how easy it was to get in to the parking area, the lovely weather and what a treat it was to be able to do a parade lap with so many other beautiful Astons, he seemed to take umbrage and wandered off, presumably to find someone to complain to about the relentlessly cheery bloke...
I must have met the same bloke, and yes I do exactly the same!

6 new models in the next 6 years, though that's quite a big ask, even with the use of the Lagonda name in support. So what have we got? The new DB11, a replacement for the Vantage, DBX, Lagonda/Rapide and Vanquish. What else?
That's five models. 2 seater, 2+2, 4 seater, Chelsea tractor, supercar. The only one missing is the city car. I'm sorry but it's the Cygnet. It's coming back!! I'm going to bet in electric form. It will be a rebadged Renault Twizy, Sterling Moss drives one so he could market the Aston version.

getmecoat
Dont forget the still secret One-78. A limited edition supercar and replacement for the one-77. However, as its nsme sugests its based on the 1978 updates. So expect walnut on the dash and door tops, leather headlining, bonnet bulge, and the engine builder name on the engine. Chassis numbers to be confirmed later

Climb down from your mount michael. Am I not allowed to dislike (made for) "celebrity" programmes?

To be fair I am being clumsily harsh on Mr Hollywood and I don't blame him at all for accepting the invitation to do a programme about Aston Martin cars, but I do get annoyed by the plethora of programmes made for celebrities. If he stuck to his cake baking programmes (for which I am informed he is very good and talented) I would be much happier.

Why couldn't they ask a well known car expert to do it instead?

Just saying.......

fair enough ...I will climb down from my pedestal ........Paul Hollywood is an Aston fanatic like many of us on this forum, and a great choice to host a program on Aston Martin ......I think it unfair and unreasonable of you to have a go at a chap who makes his living from baking and being a TV personality .........lets agree to disagree

i personally would much prefer to hear from out and out petrolheads that are aston fanatics like Paul Hollywood or Mark Donoghue to talk about our cars than plenty of others they drag out and stick on the telly. both have invested heavily into astons and arent just talking the dream.

Hi All,

New to the forum and, to be honest, pretty new to the world of Aston Martin ( proud owner of a V8 Vantage since late July ). I just wanted to add my penny's worth to the comments on this documentary. I was never a fan of Mr Hollywood but to be honest this programme completely changed my view of him. I not only thought the programme was excellent but I thought his passion for Aston Martin and for racing shone through. He had quite obvious concerns about the way Aston are heading. I know they want to make money but just becoming Porsche would make for a very sad ending for a magnificent company. If I had wanted a Porsche I would have bought one. They don't really do much for me.

Anywho, I thought the programme and Mr Hollywood were excellent.

One last point; someone said they would prefer if someone like Tiff Nedell ( think I spelt that wrong ) had hosted it. I think that misses the point. Tiff races cars and drives everything, he has a passion for racing, not a passion for Aston Martin, which is what the program was about.

Now, I'm new so be nice......

Unless either of you know him first hand I wish such comments would leave PH. And "I met him in a pub once while he was with his friends and he didn't talk to me" doesn't count.
Anyone with almost no talent (baking cakes?) and stealing a living via the TV Licence fee deserves the title complete knob.
this type of comment annoys me.
so what is it that you do for a living that makes you so special.
are we not allowed to have "normal jobs" like a baker and excel at it ?

Take a look at the topic subjects that syncii has contributed to, during the last 30 days.
Says it all, probably.

I met him at the LeMans festival as I took 2 customer cars to the meeting.
My missus likes him and asked if I could get a photo with him. On the driver parade the guys I run were sitting next to him and while chatting they mentioned my missus wanted a photo.
Following morning he popped over to the awning and I got a picture for the missus. Seems like a genuine bloke that has had a break and is now a well recognised face.

A petrolhead and loves Astons, cant be all bad!

Apologies to anyone who read a number of posts that were purportedly written by my good self casting aspersions with regard to Paul Hollywood being a kn*b. I have only become aware of these posts this evening and have now deleted.

Sadly, I have learnt a lesson in not keeping my iPhone logged into PH thus enabling certain cretins to access the site during and after the show thinking it would be funny to impersonate me. The individual concerned isn't a fan of Paul Hollywood but is a fan of Astons. He took umbrage at my excitement of watching the show and discussing with him, somewhat enthusiastically, how well I thought he did with this programme.

Probably should have kept the port and wine away the other evening.

Apologies again

Well, I really enjoyed the program and found his nibs to be a good presenter and a genuine car nut.

Had to laugh when they said they'd install air-con in his race car if he lost 3 stone in weight - he does look like a man who samples cakes for a living rofl

Thanks Nick, I am on good form thanks, work mental but otherwise life is good so not been on line much. Just debating whether to change the DB9V for a new model or keep her and get a nice preowned DBS. I am off on my first Highland Hoon next weekend, so quite looking forward to it. When you guys off down the Dog and Duck again?

My issue is I can see the market for the "suv's" declining and Aston (as well as Bentley & Jag) are late to the game. If they are going to succeed in it they are going to have to be significantly better/different to the others. Aston just don't have deep enough pockets, unlike Jag & Bentley
When I bought a new Cayenne S in March, the model which saved Porsche and upset the purists, I was told the 918 type steering wheel alone cost £20 million to develop. Admittedly it is also used in the Macan and is now available in the latest 911's, Boxsters and Caymans. Strength in numbers methinks.

Did you believe them when they said it cost £20M? It would explain why Aston have been using pretty much the same one for years (Vanquish aside) and don't even have a choice of colour for the airbag.

You can get different colour airbags? Is it like women with dresses - "oh darling I couldn't possibly crash the car again with the RED airbag, I used that one last time we had a dinner party, can we not switch to blue for our next crash?" smile

Oh you mean the steering wheel boss. Not the airbag, my bad!
