These decatted noises are epic...but how do you get around the MOT??

On a separate note: those of you of a NERVOUS DISPOSITION, please look away now:

Some bd previous owner / previous owner's child / random person has crudely scratched the above number onto the bottom of my glass key?!! Only noticed it yesterday. Spoke to Grange about it today but the feeling I'm getting back from them is that they can't do anything because it's too expensive to replace... furious

It's like writing your name with felt tip on a Prada bag. Why God, why??????? The person responsible should be publicly flogged...

Hmmm...could be the serial number part of the VIN as that's the last six digits. But why scratch it onto the glass key??

What a strange thing to do. Try taking it into a jewellery store where they have manufacturing equipment, if it's not too deep they may be able to polish it out. There are others on PH who know a lot more about polishing than me but could be worth a try.

what a weird thing to do. Perhaps he went to parties with other Aston owners and wanted to be identify his own key once they had all been chucked in the middle getmecoat

Good shout. You can feel it but it doesn't seem to be too deep. Still, you'd expect buying an £85k car from an Aston dealer that they'd replace it instantly without protest.

I know Tony's supposed to be a bit of knob polisher.... He's also apparently good at removing scratches from aluminium gear sticks. getmecoat

Wonder what he has to say...

Ha! Maybe this is a blessing in disguise...this is the (literal) key to an Eyes Wide Shut style "party"... See if there's an address anywhere in the car...

I supply the cats, in the boot, and if required they can be refitted for the MOT.

Idiots!!!!

I would call them every hour on the hour until I got my new key.

Totally unacceptable and absolute nonsense for them to put up any resistance.

Apparently they're only £500 so there shouldn't really be any excuse...

Haha, they're actually coming to take the car away as the tracker isn't working. So they'll have a look at the key themselves. They actually know all the previous owners as they sold them all and said they would try and find out about the origin of the scratch...

Can't see how finding out about the origin is going to help removing the numbers...
Dealer should get that polished out for you IMO...

New key with a complimentary leather holder at the least.

I take it that apart from the silly little key thing and a non functioning tracker you are enjoying the whole experience.

I like this general consensus from you lot. I'm not gonna give up until I have a new key. It's just not acceptable.

Yes, loving the experience so far. In fact I'm just finishing writing up a lengthy review/comparison of my V12V against my R8. I'll be posting it up within the next half hour. I'm sure you lot will find it enjoyable and informative! smile

Completely random though: last night when I was driving back through London traffic every time I had to slow down to about 1 or 2mph with the clutch all the way down and then pulling away there seemed to be a weird noise, almnost as if the handbrake was on, even though it wasn't. I'll see if it happens again today. Anyone else experience this?

Personally, I disagree. Best way to hide it is by putting it in the slot and driving the car.

It's a second hand car, it's a minor cosmetic annoyance that no one in the world needed to know about until you put pictures on the internet smile

I know, but the thing about the Aston, is that it's all about the little things. You can admire those jewel like dials and the swan doors, the beautiful lines and start up the engine and not even drive anywhere and still love it and enjoy it!

The glass key is one of those things: it's a piece of art and jewellery that adds to the experience of owning the car. I haven't got a problem with general scratches - which you'd expect for a nearly five year old car and which it does have - but this deliberate crudely scratched into the back number I just can't take. If it had been professionally engraved to represent the serial number I would've been fine with it. Instead it was done almost unbelievably by hand.

It's just gonna bug me on an otherwise perfect car! smile

I guess if the 'key' is in it's slot for 8-10hrs a day this may be a good alternative.
For normal people however, where the 'key' is visible/in your pocket/ out of the car, then something of that value, clearly made as a beautiful little object in it's own right should be defaced as much as the car.... ie...not defaced.
When spending this amount of money, would it be ok for the alloys to be kerbed? I mean if you're driving it you can't see the damage right? Scuffed up leather in the back of the car? if you're driving it you can't see it...
You see my point, there are many parts of the car you can't see whilst driving it....the line at which point you decide whether damage to those parts is acceptable is obviously subjective...
I'd want it all perfect personally, and I mean factory fresh.
Any issues should be brought about by my use of the car, not based on how I received the car.

Factory fresh? It's not a new car.

And seriously, you look at the bottom of your key? I just pulled mine out of my pocket, it's got scratches, a little chip out of the glass. I'm surprised I've been able to enjoy my car all these years.
