I know, but the thing about the Aston, is that it's all about the little things. You can admire those jewel like dials and the swan doors, the beautiful lines and start up the engine and not even drive anywhere and still love it and enjoy it!

The glass key is one of those things: it's a piece of art and jewellery that adds to the experience of owning the car. I haven't got a problem with general scratches - which you'd expect for a nearly five year old car and which it does have - but this deliberate crudely scratched into the back number I just can't take. If it had been professionally engraved to represent the serial number I would've been fine with it. Instead it was done almost unbelievably by hand.

It's just gonna bug me on an otherwise perfect car! smile

I pray you don't get the squeaky brakes, the condensation in the front or rear lights, and whatever other "they all do that Sir" items come up. Hopefully you don't get the paint bubbles...

I just want you to enjoy your car, and I worry that if the smallest of things are going to bother you, you might not get what you want out of Aston ownership.

The positives far outweigh the negatives, but the "perfect" Aston is a rare thing.

It should be on the forecourt factory fresh.
If the key gets scratched and chipped then Nijius should be the one to do the damage.
He should be the one to kerb the wheels
The paint should bubble during his ownership
The lights should get condensation during his ownership
None of these things should exist as he hands over the cash...

If it was sat on an official Aston's dealer's forecourt with these types of issues, it should be whole lot cheaper or simply not there at all...

Well said. It should be MY JOB to wrap this car around a tree on the way to Burghley this year...not the dealer's. And I can't wait to enjoy doing so... biggrin

But thankfully it looks like Glass Gate is soon to be over. It looks like the key may have been marked like that from the factory for the VIN - normally they just put a sticker on. Anyway, a new replacement looks likely now. So let's all relax and get back to enjoying our Astons... smile

Right guys, after a weekend's worth of driving, I have now put up my comprehensive review of the car compared to my R8.
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I put it up as a separate thread so future people in the same dilemma as me will be able to find it more easily.

Enjoy. smile

Yes, loving the experience so far. In fact I'm just finishing writing up a lengthy review/comparison of my V12V against my R8. I'll be posting it up within the next half hour. I'm sure you lot will find it enjoyable and informative! smile

Completely random though: last night when I was driving back through London traffic every time I had to slow down to about 1 or 2mph with the clutch all the way down and then pulling away there seemed to be a weird noise, almnost as if the handbrake was on, even though it wasn't. I'll see if it happens again today. Anyone else experience this?
If it's Clutch squeak, then is a known phenomenon.
No cure for the early clutches afaik.
Later ones don't do it. As it does not affect functionality, there will not likely be a free clutch.

My 2009 DBS had the clutch replaced under warranty back in the day. Definitely worth pursuing if it is the well known "squeak"

Thanks guys in regards to potential "clutch squeak". If it doesn't actually affect the car physically then I can live with it. But I'll drive it today again to see if it re-occurs.

I was thinking of mentioning it to the dealer when they pick up the car...but then outofstepuk may admonish me further and demand I go back to an Audi.... biggrin

Mine has the dreaded squeak. I've tried a couple of times to get it sorted under warranty but because it's not a mechanical failier they won't budge. Doesn't do it all the time and mainly when I'm in sports mode and pulling off.

I read that your tracker needs changing Nijius. Mine was a real pain in the arse.
When I bought the car I had a tracker fitted as I've had this system on all my other cars. When I renewed the warranty they must have activated the Aston on for some reason.
I didn't realise this until I started getting calls from them saying the car had moved. This used to happen on a regular basis. It's good to know they are on the ball but annoying that it kept happening.
When they asked if I wanted to renew it I politely declined and will be sticking with my normal Tracker.

I wouldn't wish that upon anyone wink

Also, an unwanted noise, that might be covered by the warranty program? Of course you should. I see it as being a very different. My car had the clutch changed early in it's life as did a lot of others.

Now that I have your approval I will go ahead... smile

Although from what I've read very quickly it seems that Aston say it's usual and nothing to worry about it. Let's see what happens...

Yeah, I realised that I have the car in Sports mode all the time (and why not!) and it only occurs when pulling away. It seems to be a common thing.

I have a Cobra tracker on my Audi but Aston didn't change to them until later on and I've had no issues with them. The advantage of the Eurowatch tracker on my Aston though is that you can pair with a Bluetooth device (ie your phone) so no need to remember to carry tracker tags around with you...which I've forgotten to do quite a few times... wink

Let's hope they can sort the tracker quick. Insurance will want more money if it isn't sorted soon...

I believe the perfect Aston is possible. It's common knowledge that my cars are serviced by BR. Until I used them I too would accept TADTS. However as a rule Mike collects mine and he would text me to say "why do you put up with xyz" Stuff like squeaks and rattles, squeaking brakes etc. With the exception of "condensation in the lights" pretty much everything is sortable. Don't just accept TADTS.

Admiral don't require a tracker if you get stuck.

As is mine Nick, so you don't have to convince me of their merits.

However, the disagreement here is based on a used car from an Aston dealer being perfect. It won't be.

You've just mentioned the condensation, and others have just accepted a squeaky clutch - not something I'm aware of their being a fix for, even BR. So that's 2 points that aren't "perfect" and they all might do it.

I have squeaky brakes sometimes, even Mike and Adrian haven't been able to make this stay away. Clearly I'm not driving it hard enough...

The condensation is a funny one as it only seems to affect cars that are not garaged. Still poor I agree.

Funnily enough, I'm with Admiral. They said they'd increase the premium by around £700 if I didn't have a tracker on my R8. My wife's brother's Audi got stolen and they didn't realise they had to activate their tracker subscription. Result being insurance company didn't pay out! They were with More Than I think. That's why I'm so cautious...

My 2010 V12V also had the clutch replaced under warranty, when it displayed "the squeak". Must've been sometime in 2014 when the work was carried out.

My DBS did too.

Twice.
