In my mustang post I had mentioned I own a Buell Ulysses.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I have since traded it in for a new left over 2014 Suzuki Vstrom 1000.

I was given a good trade in price for the Buell and only paid $4200. I was waiting for the new africa twin but I could not pass this price up.

The vstrom is similar to the Buell but much more refined.

I'm gradually upgrading the bike to full adventure spec. I'm not sure if there is a bike following here but ill update this thread as time goes on.

This is my first bike with abs and traction control. Traction control modes has 3 settings. I have not rode it much as it has been cold. It doesn't have the bottom end grunt of the buell but it is definately faster in
all other areas.

Oem suzuki tank pad.

Nice pics. I have a 2015 desert edition. Great bikes. You'll empty your wallet pretty sharpish upon adding bling to it!
I just fitted an arrow can - sounds deep and boomy now. Enjoy....

Is that the givi airflow? How tall are you and is there any buffeting?

How do you find the oem suzuki heated grips?

Does your centerstand have any rust? I read some oem stands are already rusting so I was planning on the sw motech center stand.

Have you had any paint issues on the rear rack or stalling when sudden downshifting?

Hi,

No rust or paint issues anywhere. No stalling etc....yes, it's the Gigi airflow. I'm 6ft and I get zero buffeting.. The screen has so many adjustments.factory fitted heated grips are great.

Indeed.

we're looking at getting a "delivery" bike for work. As long as it has a top box it's a tax deductable which is nice. Looking at the classic Adv bikes but budget is a factor so we're not going to stretch to the top KTM or such. For scudding around town to and from clients or sites the Suzuki could be a contender. was completely under the radar until you posted.

Cheers

I am using the wolfman rainier tank bag from my buell. The straps are ment for the klr which worked well on the buell but on the v strom the bag sags into my stomach, I then used a universal harness and now it sits higher than in the pic and no longer sits on my stomach.

Also genuine hippo hands from Canada, these work great in the cold.

At first it is unerving not seeing your hands but you soon get used to it. I only use them when I have to.

I used to ride in all conditions but snow, nowadays I take the mustang but I do not like putting miles on it.

So the Vstrom is having a global recall:

1. Engine ground is required to be relocated as the correct position has caused corrosion and thus made a bad contact.
2. Ignition connector that was used is not waterproof! Suzuki's fit is to fit a rubber boot over it.
3. Relocate/pull down harness under the tank and fit an anti friction pad under the fuel tank as a lot of people have had their harness chafe on the tank.

Fortunately mine was produced later so it's all ok. Simple fixes though.

If you choose to do an oil change, it takes all of 5 minutes 😉

I'm probably going to get the extended warranty so for now I am letting the dealer do it.

Changing the oil yourself won't effect the warranty as long as you use a Suzuki filter. That applies in the UK anyway.

Do you document it and keep the receipts?
