I am still a bit concerned about the all weather drive-ability, though during the test drive I had no issues with the PZero Corsa tires. But leaving in Switzerland I still would need winter tires for the snowy days.
Congrats on the V12, a nice looking colour scheme!

On the subject of tyres, I am living in Switzerland and for winter I am running Sottozero's on a V8 Vantage, and in most conditions like any car with good winter tyres they handle the conditions very well if you drive sensibly... You have to be cautious in new snow when it's below zero I've found as a little too much loud peddle and it'll break loose, but I've been up to Grindelwald and Zermatt this winter and had no issues. Of course the V12 will be a little more perky... carrying chains would be a smart idea.

Coming to Burghley then?

Hats off to you for making proper use of your car in all weathers.
Absolutely love Grindelwald from when we used to go skiing there, beautiful area in the summer as well.

Thanks Ken. While I was happy that my car was previously owned by a summer driver, I have every intention of using it as a normal car as much as is practical. The Quattro S6 is great for when you know your going into the snow but the Vantage can certainly be used in the winter. I'm pretty fastidious about under body washing though!
Grindelwald is a terrific, I love that the Eiger is right there presiding over the area, so much history on that North Face.

Its lovely. The ride is so much better than I expected. I also like the SportShift III, I have to say. I like it better then the R-Tronic from the Audi. Well, and the V12, it is just an amazing peace of an engine, i really like how it delivers the power, though in Switzerland I can not get even close to its potenzial. I think I have to visit a German Autobahn soon ;-)

The only thing I am a bit disappointed is the engine sound from inside the car, and that there are no 'blips' on downshifts, as the V8 Vanatge had...

YES! I agree completely with the ride. All the reviews said it was quite firm and I was expecting the worst but it's actually pretty good.

I had the misfortune of driving an R-Tronic R8 for a week. Hated it. Whereas even the SS on my earlier Vantage 4.7 was so much better.

Are there really no automatic blips on downshift on a V12VS?? Can anyone here confirm? For the sound on my V12V I just keep the windows opened a bit. Keeps me happy but the Mrs cold... biggrin

Congratulations on the car!

The V12VS certainly does rev match on downshifts, not sure why you are saying it does not. This is one of the foolproof aspects of the SS3 transmission - it's virtually impossible to screw up a downshift, unlike upshifts, which require quite a bit of driver skill to finesse under various conditions.

Congratulations, car looks lovely! Mine blips on downshifts but I only use Sport mode. Sounds great too but I never put the roof up! You should have gone for the Roadster! :-)

It's never going to be as audible in the vmcanin as a mid-engined car (one of the things I love about the R8 Spyder is being able to open the tiny rear window and hear the rockers.

Open the windows. We're nearly there with the weather. I almost never have them fully closed between April and October.

Congratulations. I lived in Switzerland last year (and got a fine for doing 51 km/h in a 50 km/h zone) so really share your frustration with the over zealous speed enforcement and draconian speeding fines. It takes the fun out of motoring so enjoy your car sensibly and thank god it is not too far to a de-restricted Autobahn.

51 in a 50 zone and they fined you! They really don't like cars over there after all!

Followed a lovely red R8 V10 - H7 OSS - this afternoon. Interestingly had no trouble keeping up with him in gear in 2nd and 3rd. Was doing about 5k in 2nd while traffic ahead of us cleared when we hit it. Hitting the rev limiter cost a few yards, but was surprised how effortless it seemed keeping up. I'm assuming it was a older V10. Bit embarrassed about my behavior now on a public road, but the SOB cut in front after passing from the left......

Thread resurrection, chaps!

Having sold my Morgan Aero 8 (it did 97 miles in 2016 - to the garage and back for a service), I kept my 4.3 V8 Vantage.

I was about to upgrade it for a 4.7 V8V convertible, and then noticed that the Audi R8 V10 Spyder is frankly not a lot more expensive. Having driven a few now, I agree with many of the comments on this thread (albeit compared to a V8V, not a V12V).

The Aston is a better looking car, no question - a design classic, I actually think. The interior on my early car is a bit parts-bin, so the Audi's ordinary cabin feels fine. Around town (I live in London) the Audi is actually the easier car to drive, I think. The Aston's clutch biting point and histrionics when pulling away are a little tiresome after a while.

But that engine. The 4.3 V8 in my car is characterful, sounds beautiful and multilayered. But the V10 in the R8 is a beast.

So for you chaps who have owned both - a year on, how does Aston ownership compare with Audi ownership? R8 V10 Spyder or AMV8 Vantage 4.7 convertible?

I do want a convertible again, so sadly the V12V is not an option, budget-wise. The beautiful drop-tops are in a different league to the R8 Spyder.
