At former RAF Base.

Announced today. Glad they are keeping it in the uk. And there are links:

Bertelli was an Italian/Welsh owner
Welsh Bond drove an Aston
And the RAF flew the Nimrod... paperbag

Whilst delighted Aston Martin are coming to Wales.
It will be another free factory paid for by the taxpayer.
Just hope the loopholes are tighter than the white elephant that was LG.

I am pleased that all Aston Martin production will remain in the United Kingdom, thereby continuing the 103 years of Company history.

In the Reuters report of this announcement,

http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-astonmartin-wales...

they state, 'By 2020, the automaker expects to produce about 7,000 DB11 sports cars a year at the Gaydon centre.'

AML have previously stated, that their ambition is to build 7,000 sports cars each year, so presumably that high figure of 7,000 DB11 models, is a mistake.

I see that max production limit for sports cars as a real positive. By the time the DB11, new Vantage and new flagship model come on stream if they limit to 7,000 vehicles a year we could see the end of discounting because, hopefully, demand will exceed supply meaning that residuals will be firmer. You never know owners, with the backing of strong residuals, may change their cars more frequently making demand even stronger! Well, that happens in my world anyway smile

Well mine was inspected by Austrians so glad the UK kept the business as loads of proper foreigners were pitching for the gig too! Talking of pitching are they really asking about £175k for it? http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/heres...eekeekeek

Ah yes.
When I wrote, '... continuing the 103 years of Company history', I had forgotten about that overseas production in Austria.

With hindsight that decision was most unfortunate, because the timing of the economic collapse, meant there was spare production capacity at Gaydon after all.

Have there ever been other Aston Martins built overseas?
The only one that I have heard about, is the 2003 Vantage concept, said to have been built in India.

Great that it is in the UK though of course Wales might leave if the UK leaves the EU.

A little odd it is not at the new Circuit of Wales which was to be hailed as the new performance engineering mecca in Wales. Though given the existing infrastructure it makes sense.

it seems Aston has no problem in attracting finance and with development and production of a new Twin Turbo V12 to be built at the Fawd facility in Cologne, it seems Dr Bez parting gift to German Auto is not wholly welcome or necessary.

Just a shame they do not decide to reverse engineer the V12 into a twin turbo V8. With Cosworth developing a new V8 for TVR and Ricardo building McLaren's twin turbo V8 it is not as if the engineering skill does not exist in the UK. Presumably Williams could provide any further expertise.

Good news for engineers and South Wales.

Am I missing something here?? If they decided to reverse engineer the V12 into a V8 then haven't they got AMG for that? Sorry if I misunderstood.

Just hope the loopholes are tighter than the white elephant that was LG.
LG was a massive waste of money, negotiated by politicians whose only motivation was more votes. It winds me up every time I think about it.

That said 700 jobs and hundreds more in the supply chain it's great news for South Wales. Best of all factory visits on our doorstep smile

As well as producing beautiful sports cars, that is another of Aston Martin's special skills.
Can you name any other business, that has hardly ever made a profit, but is still going after 103 years?
