Btw, anyone coming to Silverstone WEC this week-end?

I am not coming, but will try to follow on line/TV.
Would like to see photos, if you wish to post on the AM forum.

Keep an eye on those Fords. A beautiful modern design take on the original GT40, but as it is their first season, we don't want them to beat the Aston Martins.

Enjoy your visit.

Here is a GTE for comparison.

Come the replacement Vantage, there might be quite a few GTE and GT3 cars for sale.
Now there's a thought.
That's what happens if you park your car in Liverpool for too long wink
I've parked mine there for years and the buggers still haven't put all that carbon on it. I'd prefer they don't paint it in gulf colours though.

I think the std bonnet has a lot to answer for in the looks dept. I appreciate that like the full CF centre stack inside, the CF horseshoe was deemed unique to the GT12 to ensure it remained in its slot above the GT8, but perhaps they should have just gone with the old V12V CF bonnet vents or even the new V12VS mesh slats, or better still the Zagato bonnet? Any of these would have been better, as the std V8VS bonnet just doesn't cut the mustard IMHO on such a car.

I'm sure it will still be a very special and collectable car and will no doubt appreciate, but this, the centre stack and the lack of significant improvement in power and weight were the key factors in my decision not to put a deposit down on the first day. Probably regret it in 6mths when the first ones are delivered, but hey ho! smile

For me the negative is that the rear wing is a little less extrovert than the GT12. The positive is that it doesn't have the ugly horseshoe bonnet on the front

In my opinion, the lateral wing profiles of the GT12 were a bit too much. The GT8 design flows better and gives the car a more balanced "look-feel" and, particularly, more emphasis to the car width (the GT12 somehow feels "higher" than the GT8, difficult to explain, but that's the feeling I had by seeing both cars on the same day).

I would have loved to have the GTE bonnet, but I wouldn't have liked the GT12's. On this note, I think they had to differentiate the GT12 and the GT8 also because they are inspired from two different (-looking) race cars.

In 20 min or so more will be clear...from the official pictures you may see other details that differentiate the GT12 and the GT8. It's almost impossible to see them from the links posted above (too dark)

I'm totally won over. The GT12's wing was too garish in my opinion, this one is just right. Looks to me like the ultimate balance between track toy and usable car (like a Porsche GT3 I guess). I wasn't a fan of the GT12 bonnet either, so I welcome what they've done. Not sure why you'd want the vents from a standard model either.

Only downside I see is the price hike over a N430 doesn't seem to correlate to whats on offer, but I guess a big chunk of that is a premium for the exclusivity and (I assume) the collectable nature of these models.

If it was £130-140k I think they could have comfortably sold out 3-400 units. I guess thats not the point though.

All in all, good work Aston!

One thing surprises me.

On what is intended as a road car, that lower front splitter looks like a knife blade.

I much prefer personal responsibility to 'nanny state' health & safety measures, but do you think the splitter design might be dangerous?

Love it. This is the first v8 vantage that i would love to own. High price but low number will mean these hold value very well.

As the GT8 is supposed to be a replica of the GTE, I would want a correct GTE bonnet design.
If you compare the differences, GT8 to GTE, it is just the centre shaped depression that would give a plastics moulder some thought. The additional cost though would be insignificant, on a £200,000 car.

Well perhaps I should have made a review video! How these guys make a living out of this and can't be bothered to get the basics right, even when there in the factory with all the right people to get the right facts is beyond me!

As the presenter said "6-speed manual", i can only assume that the car would need the Bosch engine management system to make it a 7-speed manual with AM Shift [as per the V12VS manual], which is currently only used on the V12 engine. Or, it has Sportshift 2 7-speed. Believe it, or not, the Sportshift 2 is the lighter transmission!

Hmm, well Im not sure - that was one of the pieces on info I thought the presenter had wrong, as I was told 7-speed manual and looking back on this thread so were others! However all the press material, including the official release on the AM website now say 6-speed. confused

Guess we need one of the chaps who are actually buying one to clarify this point.

Yes, it was always a 6 speed manual. I think the autocar article a week or so ago started the 7 speed manual rumour and caused the confusion. UK allocation sold out on Monday.
