Just back from the factory. Before I attack the to do list my wife has given me for Xmas ,a brief update.
Seeing it for the first time all niggling worries over colour vanished - long ( very long ) story short I decided originally I wanted to go off piste and asked for Peridot based on Porsches launch colour for their Cayman R.
After protracted negotiations ( and cost debates ) with Q we all agreed terms but I was still slightly curious to see if it would actually happen. It is the first time in Aston's history that a car has been painted in Peridot apparently ( yes I know there might be a reason for that ) and it still needs some additional painting of mirrors and rear panel etc in satin black to match the wheels plus a few other bits.
It will also have some additional alcantara work inside.
Definitely marmite but very very pleased with the result.
The lighting wont do it justice anyway so will obviously post when all the work done.
Met with Andy Palmer too which only added to the occasion.

Wow Adam has some competition thats stunning.

Adam , I have an alcantara gear knob in my GT3 and so will go with that as i just like the feel of it.There is enough other alcantara in the cabin that means the ratio to leather is higher than in yours.
Will get that stitched in lime green yes.
Have the ski slope either side in lime green stitch plus the seats outer plus the door pulls in caithness leather lime green but although it worked I didn't want to go OTT.
I haven't decided on how the console will be stitched yet and whether its done by Q or Works ( the cost is very similar ) and either way fairly reasonable ( in the scheme of things ).
I am still deciding on whether or not to have the 12 o'clock on the steering wheel either stitched in lime green or a piece of leather put in - Q wanted £2k for this so I said no but am still thinking.
Wowser, can't wait to see the Lime Leather seat outers and door pulls. I was really tempted to add seat centre and door stripes in that myself, but in the end bottled it and played safe with just more pure black leather.

Yes, the price on the steering wheel 12 o'clock stripe is just silly. I too enquired about it and gave up on the idea as the price was OTT. Porsche only charged £162 for the same on my GT4, so why AM charge 10x that is beyond me. I'm tempted to go out and buy a bobbin of matching lime thread at the extensive haberdashery section in John Lewis and stitch it in over the top myself! Could be done for <£5 I'd guess! wink

Can't wait to collect my car in January. It would be great to have a Gt8 meet.
A practical question for those lucky enough to already be driving their cars: does the car clear speed bumps with the additional splitter fixed to front as part of the aero kit. My dealer said something about him having to fit it but it being easily unbolted - which he mentioned in the context of speed bumps. I would rather leave it in place if it's not an issue.

Thanks for any help with this one
I am 5 weeks into owning my GT8 and I have found speed bumps a problem and have caught the front plastic painted part once and that has caused me to be ultra careful. It's low anyway but it sticks out that much further and does meet the bump before the tyres lift the car over and then the down part is even worse! Video of me leaving Icons last Sunday you can see how close that got! My concern is I don't want to take off and the carbon fibre splitter take the scrape that is a much more costly repair for my colours!

Al your car looks amazing what a choice and as has been said so many unique designs and colour combinations can't wait to see them together. I had similar fun with the gulf orange on ultra marine black glad I did as it's the only one in that colour scheme.
FFM had pulled together a group mail and I am sure he will be along soon to add to the list.

Regards
Graham

Graham,
Thanks, it looks as though we could do with finding someone to make up a supply of plastic replacements to bolt on for everyday use.

Certain 911 GT3 RS models (certainly the 997 variants, I'm not sure which others), have a front lip about 1-2 inches deep which is in a firm black rubber/plastic - it's described as a 'consumable' - makes scraping the front splitter much more palatable. In my V12V, I still cringe every time i hear the front CF splitter scraping anything underneath. Luckily so far the only damage has been scratches underneath where you can't see them. I wish AML & others would copy the idea & have the very front section in a cheap replaceable material

As someone who puts plenty of hard miles on my Aston, I've started to dislike the growing trend for extensive CF on sports cars, as it is so much more susceptible to expensive damage

Im sure Tim wont mind putting his latest clip up.

Got to say, the blue and orange suit it.

Great video, fascinating to watch the process through the factory and into testing

One question for anyone who's had one delivered - manual or electric seats? I've gone manual so far but feeling indecisive

Well mines not a GT8 but has got the lightweight seats. I have electric and would want it in any future car. I find the memories helpful as I have one for general driving and another one with the seat higher and forward for better visibility when manoeuvring etc.. I think you'll notice that benefit more than the loss of performance from the additional weight.

Rob , I've gone for manual. I have electric in my V12 on lightweights and once set I have yet to adjust them.
My GT3 has buckets that adjust only forwards and backwards manually so my decision for the 8 was also based on that.

Is electric seats an optional extra now?

Manual lightweight seats for me. Seem to suit the nature of the car. Pictures when I take delivery in a week or two.

Would love to hear how you get on with them; I've had manual seats before in an M3 which was fine (and saves weight), so my initial thought was to go with that.

Just wondering whether getting the seat in a comfortable position with a GT8 is a problem with manual seats, i.e. Is the trade-off worthwhile?

Happy Christmas everyone!

Only on the GT8 and GT12 - its a weight saving feature.

For me the problem with manual seats is not the lack of adjustability on a daily basis, as I agree once set they are rarely if ever changes, is the lack of being able to set them into the right position in the first place which would be the material issue. Without the electronic adjustments I get the impression you cant adjust the tilt, which I think is quite a key feature to getting the comfort right. I'd go electric if it was mine...

I went Manual too for reasons shared by others plus I liked more the design without the controls on the sides.
If I recall correctly, in manual mode, there are 3 fixed height positions to choose from which enable you to adjust front/backwards tilt, as well.
