Hi Guys

I'm purchasing a AMV8 which has a Bamford Rose Exhaust ( Manifold, Cats and exhaust) does this set up required a Re-Map, or does the ECU self learn ? Might seem a silly question but I could not find the answer :/

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

To get the best out of the mods a remap would help...

I would expect that Mike would have done that when he fitted the mods in the first place.

There might be a 3 way switch on the console under the LHS of steering wheel which should take care of that...

Picking up as similar question about a Vantage I'm looking at. It's a 4.7 with BR exhaust system. Seems less common an upgrade on a 4.7?

I've searched but can't find answer - does this upgrade affect the insurance?

Yes you should notify your insurer it has an exhaust upgrade. Depends on your policy if it affects the premium much, if at all.

Brilliant thanks. Any experiences of this upgrade on a 4.7 car? It did sound really good.

Bamford Rose modify a lot of astons and they know what they are doing (as do other indy workshops). You could ring mike and ask him about the car, I would think he has the work history and can advise.

I have full BR system (manifolds, baffled 200 cell cats, valves switch) on my Vantage S (4.7) and it is superb. Great sound, noticeable power/torque increase and improved engine response (enhanced further by flywheel/clutch upgrade). You won't be disappointed.

I informed my insurance and paid nothing extra (£392 annual premium).

I would not have thought that a replacement exhaust would need to be notified to the insurers. It is a replacement part thats not of OE manufacture just like goint to Kwik Fit for a cheapo replacement on any other car.

It is the remap that should be notified. If they go hand-in-hand, then fine, but a standalone exhaust replacement should not matter, any more than changing the brand of tyre or brake pads.

A like for like exhaust sure, but if it`s a performance product that increases HP then I am sure in the event of an accident, if it is discovered that the car has an additional 20 or 30HP than what was declared, that would provide the insurance company with just cause for turning down a claim. This is what insurance companies love to do after all, avoid payouts.

I have just replaced the standard exhaust on my Bentley with a Larini system with no increase in insurance premiums. It was classed as a like for like replacement as the Cinti GT Speed is fitted woith a 'Sports Exhaust' - Admiral.

I had a 'remap' at the same time but is listed on the invoice as a 'Software Upgrade' for the new exhaust rather than a 'Remap'. Again with no increase in premiums

possibly smile but many of them will try to wriggle out or reduce a claim if you have modifications they dont know about. Read the T&Cs

When i had a bad accident 12 years ago (write off) they inspected the car thoroughly and cross checked every modification was notified.

Even the brand of tyre was checked to see if it was on the approved list for the car (It had non std wheels and tyres)

Some of my cars/bikes are modified and all the mods are declared and listed on my insurance docs. Some affected the premium, some didnt.

If you fit a replacement OEM exhaust then of course no need to mention it, but if you fit a nice £5000 stainless performance enhancing exhaust, then I might just let them know and save any potential hassle in the event of a claim.
