You gotta wonder if Q just pulls prices out of its ass or they simply don't want to do the work so they give it a stratospheric figure.
Apparently a lot of buyers in the far east are willing to pay regardless, so who can blame them.

What I find rather silly is that the whole car can be painted in a special Q paint for £3995, but the tiny calipers are £6594 (inc VAT). Hey ho, made the decision easy. smile

WTF........I would tweet Andy P and see what he says......painted calipers are beyond silly.......that's an absolute joke.

If you don't want to i will, just say !
I agree, I mean its not hard you are paying £150k plus for a car they should be a bit more reasonable not take the piss out of there customers. Not even Ferrari charge that amount.
Its just anti-business if you ask me, as if I do want another colour Ill just pay the dealer/local expert to do it for a fraction of that, but had they charged a reasonable amount may have gone with it. As I say there are those who will pay it, so...

Anyway, overnight after looking at the two samples quite a lot we're going back to take another look at Cinnabar this morning as its definitely making a late comeback, so going to ask to borrow that mould too. Quite surprisingly Kermit has grown on the mrs too, so its all up in the air again! laugh

Need to spend a bit more time looking at interior samples again while we are there.

AM have given me an extension to a week on Monday to get a spec in, which I feel is a timescale I can work to.

OK, Montana now out of the running so it's down to just Kermit or Cinnabar.

Did two full combos with interior colours as below.

Common to both - Pure black leather trim and seat outers, pure black alcantara seat inners and door cards and roof outer, obsidian black alcantara door/seats stripes steering wheel and roof inner.
Kermit paint would be with lime green stitch, Cinnabar paint with California Poppy stitch.

Cheers guys, yes I've considered lots of greens but ruled them all out in favour of Kermit.

Kermit is a flat colour but this gives it a consistancy of look in various lighting conditions whereas Cinnabar looks different everytime I look at it and not always in a positive way.

We are both 50:50 on these two now which is good. Pretty stunned at the turnaround from the mrs now we have the moulds!

JCT love Kermit and have said they are going to get a stock car (prob a V8VS) in it if I dont order it on this one!

Why are this pushing to this particular deadline?
Just the normal lock down lead time for a July build / Aug delivery spot - its one of the first slots, or so I am told. Obv I will delay the actual delivery until 1st Sept for the new plate.

New pics of all three moulds taken in the same sunlight in my living room. I think these are the closest to the real life colours that I have managed to capture so far.

Noticed that Cayucos is actually Pearlescent not metallic and also that the metallic flake in Cinnabar is a dark flake, not lighter as is more usual.

Sorry if you are all bored silly now tongue out

Yup that's pretty much what I thought when I finally found some suitable pics where the colour shade substituted accurately!

I think this could be the one - and the mrs agrees! eek

No jct is closed now, this is going on biggrin
LOL - I think I've been almost as indecisive as your friend with the GT8 order! wink

In fairness they are still open and already exchanged a few emails this morning - the Kermit pics have most definitely met with the approval at that end too! Feeling very happy with it now, probably the most happy with a single choice so far. I still have a few Q questions to answer mostly on interior trimming before anything is locked down totally, but I finally think I must just be getting close! tongue out

Probable configurator interior to go with Kermit paint:

That looks lovely......

Quick one, can anybody describe to me the difference between Cinnabar and Madagascar orange ? Am I right in thinking perhaps Cinnabar is a touch darker ?
Yes I can, I looked into both of these colours quite a lot before deciding on Cinnabar. If you have been watching Shmee's 007 Scottish Tour video and heard him say the car is Madagascar Orange, then ignore it - that car is Cinnabar, I had JCT check the reg with AM to confirm his commentary was in fact incorrect.

Madagascar is a much paler and more orangey version of Cinnabar and it was the launch colour of the Virage. Whilst similar in some ways it is quite different.

I have seen it in the flesh and the first pic is what Madagascar looks like the most to me, but again it varies somewhat depending upon the light and can look like the second pic too, hence why it can be similar to Cinnabar:

Id say Cinnabar at its very lightest is close to Madgascar at its very darkest.

Orange calipers are a £1000 option on the gt8. So that q quote is weird. If it helps my dealer said he had a customer wh wanted Orange calipers, they got a local bodyshop to do them for him after-market at a reasonable cost
Yeah I was aware they are a lot cheaper on GT12/8 - odd that, but I guess its down to what is classed as std or non std, rather than actually representative of the real cost. Ive decided the std annodised black/grey suits my colour combos anyway, so they are free so ideal choice.

Stll thinking Kermit Paint is the favourite now, but as a further example of the above, I found out today that Lime Green contrast stitching is a non standard colour, unlike the California Poppy stitching which I would have used for the other two exterior orange paint colours. The cost for a non std colour stitch is £995!

The gear surround on the manual is the old V12V chrome, which would look silly if you ask me with the lowline console and std gearknob, however as I am going with the highline console which has the chrome leading edge, and the old metal gear know this will probably work OK. Still think its odd and don't see why they didn't choose to make it piano black to match everything else.

Been told that obsidian black alcantara door / seat stripes are not available and Q need to price those! This one has the potential to get me miffed it they charge for it, as its the most lowly of requests if you ask me - plus Im only asking because they only produce the steering wheel in obsidian alcantara and I don't want it to mismatch everything else given Im going with Pure Black Alcantara for the seat inners and door cards.

Also awaiting further responses from Q on Alcantara dash (identical what to Sport-Plus Pack has), the now discontinued roof and tailgate decals and a price for the gloss black zagato wheels. I have low expectations that any of these will meet with my pricing approval based on the majority of Q pricing so far.

That is very nice indeed - I saw your posting in the V8V Blades thread, but the colour combo is not for me, see page 1 wink

How about getting a specialist to re-trim the steering wheel in Pure Black, it might be a cheaper option than getting the "pick a number, any number" crowd at Q.

Yeah, or just dipping the thing in a bucket of black Dylon has even crossed my mind! Thing is I quite like the idea of Pure black seats, dash and door cards with obsidian steering wheel, gear gaiter, seat/door stripes and headliner inner and assumed all that would be zero cost. No confirmation on cost as yet but Im still hopeful they wont charge for it.

Hi Adam, glad I'm not in your shoes, lol. Utter turmoil haha.
I'm very much in favour of the green (did you dismiss Ocellus teal)?
But

It's a pity the green is flat.. My brother had a Java green A3 Quattro new in 2000 which looked fab. And now bmw are doing similar....have you asked AM about a kermit metallic???!!!!

Hi Phil

Not a fan of Ocellus teal, and neither me or the mrs really fancied any blue - well except perhaps Flugplatz, but I wanted something even rarer. The Kermit mould is pretty epic in the flesh - have you seen my photoshop pics that I posted a couple of pages back?

Funnily enough VAG Java Green was one of the colours I shortlisted before I found Kermit, but I suspect that and a metallic Kermit would be far too much. To be honest Im quite happy with it being flat, it just works in the same way Flugplatz works as a flat colour.

Paint prices for MY17 are as follows:

AML Primary - free
AML Contemporary - £1195 (Discounted if you take as part of the Contemporary Pack)
AML Special Colour - £3495
AML Previous - £3995
Q Special - £3995
Q Satin - £???? (not asked)
Other Manufacturer Colour - £3995
Match to Sample - £7995
Other manufacturer Special Colour - £11,995

I'd be pretty sure Java would fall into one of the last two categories! For once the Q pricing looks quite reasonable.

OK more price updates from Q today:

  • Part Alcantara Dash (as per sport pack plus) in Pure Black Alcantara / Pure Black Leather - £695
  • Headliner Inner in Obsidian Black Alcantara and Outer in Pure Black Alcantara - £695
The Alcantara dash seems very reasonable and providing Q confirm that it's covers just the bits I want (i.e. not the upper IP) and does include full contrast stitching then I will be going with this. smile

The two tone headliner however is a joke. This has been a standard offering on the configurator for as long as its been available, doesn't appear on the price lists as an option anywhere so I cant believe Q are treating this as a chargeable option! furious

Been promised almost all other outstanding answers by tomorrow.

Mixed news! irked

Even rarer eh?
There is only one Grigio Titanio V12V in the UK, but you probably don't want grey.

Choosing your specification is clearly not easy.
Do you plan to keep your new car for a few years?
If so, you presumably need to be certain, that you will still like your colour in a few years time.
If there is one already, then its already not rare enough! wink Besides, read post #1 - no silvers or greys in this house! tongue out

Plan is to keep it a long time, end of an era car V12, na, manual etc... and all that! Only time will tell however...
