Would be great to read forum members thoughts on this fantastic series. Starting tomorrow 6 hours at Silverstone,,,this is how AMR see it:
With the team looking to claim a strong finish in this weekend’s race, Aston Martin Racing Team Principal Paul Howarth knows the importance of claiming points consistently across what is tipped to be the FIA WEC’s most competitive season to date.
“We’re in a great place ahead of Silverstone,” he commented. “We’ve had a positive off-season and after working closely with our new partners including TOTAL and Dunlop in each of our test sessions, we’re confident that we have a great package. It’s important that we hit the ground running and score points at every round, to be in with a chance of winning titles in Bahrain”.
Aston Martin Racing will enter three cars in this year’s championship. Two GTE Pro and one GTE Am. With the #95 GTE Pro occupied by Nicki Thiim, Marco Sørensen and Darren Turner, the second GTE Pro entry of #97 will be piloted by Richie Stanaway and Fernando Rees.
In GTE Am, the trio of Paul Dalla Lana, Mathias Lauda and Pedro Lamy will launch their 2016 campaign, after finishing 2015 on a high with victory at the 6 Hours of Bahrain.
The Six Hours of Silverstone starts at midday on Sunday 17 April 2016. Fans in the UK can watch the race live on Motors TV from 11:30 and can join the team on social media using the hashtag #teamAMR.
Driver line-ups:
6 Hours of Silverstone
GTE Pro
95: Nicki Thiim, Darren Turner, Marco Sørensen
97: Richie Stanaway, Fernando Rees
GTE Am
98: Paul Dalla Lana, Pedro Lamy, Mathias Lauda.
Bring it on AMR, let this be our best season ever.

I have just looked at the qualifying results, Bob.
Pro class pole position (Ferrari) = 2:12.981
Fastest Aston Martin (5th out of 7 cars) = 2:21.091
On paper it looks tricky, but perhaps there is more to it, than is shown by these figures.
In the AM class
Pole (Porsche) = 2:15.102
Aston Martin (6th out of 6 cars) = 2:23.005

Historically on several occasions Aston Martin have done well in qually,,,only to have then struggled in the race. Tomorrow will be interesting. Pro class pole position (Ferrari) = 2:12.981

Read an article (probably on the Vantage magazine) about this WEC season. It will be a tough one mainly because competitors are running with blown engines from this year (e.g. Ferrari and Ford), they say it would be difficult for regulators to limit this natural advantage though..
If I recall correctly, AM is also the only the one to use Dunlop..and tyres play a big factor too
Let's see, hopefully the weather at Silverstone so far played a role in influencing the true performance of the GTE..

Good race for the Vantages, 2 podiums. Well done to Ferraris, too
AMs were lapping around a 1.2sec slower than the Turbos 488 but around 1.5sec faster than Ford GTs. Also faster than Porsches, with 3 cars out for suspension issues, I believe.
Shame for the #97 Vantage, out in the last hour. Despite some issues at the beginning it came back very strongly indeed.
Thought Ford GTs would have been the one to beat alongside the 488s.. probably they were testing out for Le Mans and anyway not showing their full potential
Overall, I think Aston has shown how competitive the Vantage is, still nowadays; particularly, considering the massive budgets its competitors invest on new technology/platforms etc.

Assume for Ford even more than the others, this really is all about Le Mans for them and so there can be a fair bit of game playing to avoid too many restrictions at LM24.
WEC is great, and Le Mans is the feather in its cap, is there any more iconic race? While qualification pace did not look encouraging at Silverstone it is endurance racing so there's more to it than outright pace, thankfully... Good to see AM represented on the podium, plus it's nice to see the Vantages growling around the track and know that you've got one parked in your driveway! Here's a few Vantage orientated shots I took while I was at the event, most of these are from Friday practice when it was suitably gloomy...

Superb shots, liking them a lot! Still miss the Gulf colours though. New not too bad. Anyone know the official colour now?
Thanks you! I liked the Gulf colours also, looked weird seeing them on a Porsche this year... I understand the new colour is called "Stirling Green"Great shots, thanks for posting Mr T.
Although I've given this thread the WEC title, there are a number of other series running during the year, if anyone knows of any race event in which AMR, Beechdean or ROFGO AMR are entered and its covered by TV or Live streamed, please give us the heads up here, thanks.

Great shots, love that Stirling green in that weather!Thank you Dean for posting.
Your photographs are superb, as always.
I particularly like your shot of two Vantages, following one of the prototype class cars. That is a very rare photograph,
as I have found when searching following Le Mans races, and you have captured not one but two Aston Martins, brilliant.
