The missing six E type Lightweights are track only.
DB4 GT Continuation would be a not dissimilar concept to the Vulcan but aimed at those who prefer older models.
Sorry, I didn't catch that. biggrin

Seems a bit odd if you can't race them either.
You would be able to race them if they were faithful recreations of the original cars. A significant proportion of the all-GT40 grids, Lola T70s and Lister Jaguars seen at the best British events are new cars built as accurate replicas that meet the FIA's historic racing rules. That's partly the reason for Aston building them. Obviously it's not in the organisers' interests to publicise this fact.

Bramley had a couple of DB4s rebuild as DB4 GT replicas. The workmanship was extraordinary but given the value of the DB4 base car i fear that you would be loosing money converting original DB4s into something without proper provenance. Provenance and originality is key. A DB4 replica would never be worth more than it would cost to produce one from scratch. The lightweight Jaguars and also the Sanction II DB4 GT Zagatos that were built by Richard Williams 30 years after the original batch was finished using non allocated VIN numbers from the era are fetching high numbers but are still significantly below the original Zagatos and will never catch up. It is a bit like having a Picasso copied but without the proper signature - worth the cost to produce.

I think I'm correct in saying that as soon as you have any form of replica/recreation approved to race in an FIA historic event, it immediately raises the value of such a car ?

Probably, in that a) it gives you something to do with it and b) it gives it legitimacy, partly through rubbing shoulders with Ferraris and Cobras (many of the latter such as the Daytona coupes being replicas themselves). An event such as the Tour Auto would be a challenge as it's a road rally and would need road plates.

The DB9 has over 10k miles on it now after this weekend. It hasn't been getting that much use at the moment as I've been away a lot (see point 3), but it still gets taken out when the weather is good biggrin

1) I don't mind it but it seems it's only been done because Aston are cashing in on the back of the success of the GT12, and they couldn't make more GT12s as it would upset the existing owners. I'm sure it will sound fantastic, it looks nice (although I prefer it without the wing), and hopefully it will perform as a viable alternative to a GT3RS. Call my cynical perhaps - I doubt it will, however it will beat it in the exclusivity stakes (if that is somehow important to a track based performance car???). I also think it's in a difficult place with the pricing, to spec it up (to imo how it should have been - centre locks / titanium exhaust as standard), you've got some serious competition! I've no doubt they will sell them all, just if I was in the market for something like that, I'd struggle to see the value for money in it. I'd take a Vantage S and an Exige or a Radical in place of it personally.
I must say I can't agree with you more on this. GT8 will be a smashing all rounder in its own right, but probably won't get anywhere near GT3 RS in terms of outright performance. its a much prettier thing to look at and way more exclusive, but is it worth it? I am not so sure.

We have missed hearing your news George.
Please give us your comments on;

2. Your season plans for motorbike racing.
Update on the racing front - it's not happening any time soon! Have been in Bangor hospital overnight and possibly a few more nights to stay, after a 130mph highside frown broken foot, ankle (possibly both ankles), and hand cry

So sorry to hear that George.
Would Bangor Hospital mean you were at Oulton Park?
Wishing you a comfortable and speedy recovery.

Expect you are now watching TV. Your work colleague is running 5th.

Have you considered club motor sport with cars, instead of bikes?

Cheers. Nope I was at Anglesey, think my engine might have blown up at the fastest point on the track, putting oil all over my tyre frown could have been much, much worse though.

I haven't got a tv, where abouts did they finish? 5th isn't great if both Mercs are out..

Racing cars is so dull in comparison, I went on a car trackday with my mate once and I've never had a desire to drive a car on track since. The sense of excitement on a bike can't be replicated in a car!

Thanks. It's not the best since both ankles are broken, moving about is difficult to say the least. Although on a positive note there is a very attractive nurse looking after me smile

Sorry OP. Well off topic now.

1st Verstappen - RB
2nd Raikkonen - Fer.
3rd Vetted - Fer.
4th Ricardo - RB
5th Bottas - Will.

Massa = 8th.

The two Mercedes collided soon after the first corner.
Verstappen had to defend against Raikkonen for many laps. Pressure does not seem to a word he knows.

In my reference to car racing, I was not thinking of excitement, but of your safety.

Tell the nurse she can take your DB9 for a run. You'll be in then. After all, someone will need to take it for a 20 mile drive, once a month.

Apologies for the off topic, and also apologies to Williamp, my fault as I asked for the results, never thought.

I do the bike racing thing for excitement, not safety. I've known of people a similar age have a brain heamorage and drop dead, what's the point in not doing something incase you get hurt occasionally? Here for a good time not a long time! biggrin
