Hi,

I have an MY2008 DB9 and I cannot seem to turn the aircon off - the light on the button is constantly lit.
I hope its just a faulty switch that I can take out and maybe clean, has anybody had the same issue at all?
If I do need to remove the switch, is it easy and how do I do it?

Many thanks in advance,
Geoff.

Not sure about the DB9, but on a few types of car, when you direct the air onto the windscreen the air con comes on automatically.

Try moving the air direction onto your feet and see if you can switch it off then.

Also, does the light go off if you turn the heater fans off?

On my Vantage if you set the system to "auto" you can't turn the Aircon off, to switch it off you have to manually select a fan speed - pretty stupid design to be honest.

I have the same issue if the dial is set to Auto. However if I put the blowers on a manual setting and I switch the air con on and off.

I've never switched mine off or felt the need to either.

Hi guys,

Sorry about that, bit of a newbie question and embarrassingly I have been a bit stupid.
@Grumpydev, you were correct, I had it set to "AUTO", soon as I moved it I could turn the aircon off - doh!!

Cheers all.

Doesn't the compressor just needlessly run if u don't?

Define "needlessly". Does it cut in and out as it sees fit, yes. Will it disengage when full throttle is applied, yes. Does it maintain the demanded temperature inside the cabin while ensuring windows are mist free, yes.

Design is logical. Its climate control not simple air con.

All of my cars have climate, and have had for donkeys years, none of them force Aircon on when you choose automatic fan speed.

I did the same thing myself today. Wanted to turn off aircon while windows were open.

The compressor will only run when the compressor clutch engages, and that will only be occasionally to maintain pressure in the system. This is also dependant on the system demand and outside temp, so in the winter, it will just allow cool outside air into the cabin. This is why you should use the aircon sometimes during the winter otherwise, the compressor turns of completely, the compressor seals harden and the seals fail or leak when you fire the AC up again in the warm weather.

If you leave the AC on, it will only take power when you select air colder than ambient and will maintain the temp you have selected and the odd moment when it recharges the pressure, normally just a minute or so.

Yes - I'm used to being able to choose if the compressor runs even when in full auto on other cars. Adds up to 1 mpg having it off!

Another anomaly is the way you cant have footwell air off if you want cool face air vents plus windscreen demist air. I like cool feet and demisted screen but wife hates cold feet! Not poss! Not a fault!
