MOT booked for Saturday.

Just relocated to a different part of the country so my old TVR friendly MOT station is not an option consequently the Clive F Y piece needs to be replaced by the original.

When I fitted the Clive F y piece 3 or so years ago it went on with no problem. No straps needed no difficulty at all.

Now, can I get the original to fit - No damn way will it fit.

They never go back in without a fight, I've done mine two or three times now and it's either a strap to pull them together or loosen manifold bolts off a tad but that takes awhile.
Patience my friend. wink

Come on Al, man up mate, hehe

If you get fked off with it its best to sleep on it, it'll go together no bother you watch;)
Actually it's a pita, Rich and I were dripping sweat when we did his Alan, don't be to hard on yourself or the car, haha,

I don't like the strap method although it's by far the easiest way to do it,
I undid all the bolts on both manifolds and had to take them out a fair way to get the Y to mate on mine, put clamps on just nipped up then drew the manifolds back to the heads by evenly doing each bolt up so to get an even spread and not stressing any of the pipes,, it's been air tight for over two years now so I must have done something right,

You know your beans Al, get a big ratchet strap on it. thumbup

Thanks Al, you're right but why does it always play up when you're under the cosh? And how did it fit before, nowt changed, and won't now?

Smaller garage doesn't help either.

Looks like I may have to cancel the MOT.

I only asked where you live because if it was anywhere near TVRSSW you probably wouldn't need to refit the cat. Just stick it in the boot and offer to fit it.......you might even try that with your local MOT station. Depends on how much they like TVRs.
I haven't had to refit mine - indeed, it seems to be on permanent loan at the moment to a guy whose cat exhaust broke just before his MOT.

You could also avoid the big test centres and find a little local garage cum MOT station run by an old geezer who likes cars, and err ask his opinion.

As above.

There are 2 testers at my localish station, one loves TVRs and the other loves the "20" I slip in the tea box.

Running full decat and would fail dramatically!

The best thing I did was decide every job on the Tvr might take hours so be prepared and that way you sort of expect to be there all day!
Odd how they used to line up though hey

I'd have found an excuse to have a long drive rather than take the Y off.
Good luck with it mate.

I had an arrangement with my last place where I left a crate of beer in the boot in exchange for them fitting the cat and removing it again afterwards.

Whether they did or not of course I have no idea but it always passed.

If I'd have known about TVRSSW I might have been tempted to take it to them for an opinion.

As it is I have a car in the garage with no y piece on and an MOT booked for tomorrow morning.

I'm off out to the garage for another go at it.

I've sat here for hours now Al waiting for news,,
You have removed the bolt that holds the exhaust to the block, that's if your doing it with exhaust in place, just offering you less forces as you try and ping the Y back onto the clamps. Just trying to help!

Its on. Sort of.

Yes I undid the bolt into the side of the block. And then has a bugger of job getting it back in.

I'll see if they'll pass it as is and then refit the Clive F Y piece.

Would it have been quicker and more fun to drive to a TVR friendly MOT station?
