AMi III? It would also be good to make a phone call with voice control instead of having to play with the nob; my old Disco 3 from 06 has voice control and
I have a 16 model year Vantage V8S with no voice control; just aint good enough.

You will be able to do this with Apple CarPlay on AMi III - that is when AM finally release it. Had wondered if my car might have it, but no...

So here is a question for you AMi III (and maybe AMi II) guys - what on earth does this option do in the car settings? I can't find any mention of it in the manual and it doesn't stop the screen flipping up on putting the start up (as I had assumed it meant), so its got me stumped.

Thank for your comments. As for your nav screen popping up, my old 2012 vantage V8 did that and it does it on the AMi11 2016 but; if I lower the screen
before I switch the car off it stays down when I restart the car.

Has anyone here done the upgrade? And is it worth the extra cost?
I am thinking about getting this done on my MY16 Vanquish.

Sounds horribly familiar. Do please advise if you hear of anywhere. The search continues...

PS - Aston Installations can add CarPlay, but with extra switches fitted.

I can't say if its worth £3.5k as that is a big chunk of cash and I do not have any direct experience of what AMi II offered, but I can say that AMi III is excellent in all areas and when on the latest firmware offers both Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Do have a read of my AMi III Setup Tips Thread and feel free to ask me if you have any specific questions beyond what is covered there.

You're not helping! smile

As I understand it AMi iii primarily offers a properly good satnav as well as CarPlay. My only real interest is in CarPlay, but I don't want to add extra switches and dials to be able to control it. In fairness to AMi ii, it's audio / iPhone music integration capability is actually pretty good, it's the mapping and lack of ability to use Waze (I'd take either, but don't need both) that let it down.

Yes I think the built in sat nav on AMi III is one of the best Ive used to be honest, which is amazing given many of the earlier sat navs fitted really were sub standard compared to the market at the time.

Carplay works just fine - it's not my personal thing, but each to their own and if it's your's then I can say it worked first time as intended, so no issues there. Maybe you could flick through the settings and screenshots in the setup thread I have linked above and let us know what the major differences are between those listed and your AMi II system. That would be interesting to know and maybe help you and others to follow in the decision to make the leap or not.... smile

I have decided that I actually want it, but still think it is quite an amount. My dealer charges 4300 euros, without VAT, including the map update of 318 euros.
For now I am doing the map update first.

The infotainment system is the only thing that makes my car (MY16 Vanquish) outdated. I don't care about adaptive cruise control, hands free keys etc on a sports car. But things like AMi 2 user friendliness bother me. With AMi 3 I can make the car "up to date" again.

Thanks, AdamV12V. AMi 3 will be installed before the end of the year, I guess ......

I have a 2011 N420 so the pre-waterfall dashboard, but what this upgrade entails? I mean, why should it be so expensive? What hardware is involved?

Also, for maps: again, my system is completely different, but when I was researching the interwebs to update my DVD-based maps, I remember I read about waterfall systems being updatable via SD cards, for free, either via OpenStreet maps or Garmin maps. Do some research there before shelling out 318 € for some maps. wink

Hers's the link regarding using OpenStreetMaps...

It does work, but if I remember correctly, you can't input post/zip codes, which might be a bit of an issue to some. It was a while back so may be wrong about that.
