I used to own a DB9 and a V12 Vantage but have driven many CGTs (to Le Mans, in Finland on ice) etc. The Bentley is the better car - by quite a distance. Its quick, roomy, very well built but I dont like the image it portrays, which is the only reason why i havent bought one yet. The CGT Coupe V8S is terrific.
You are right, but I just decided I couldn't give a stuff about the image it portrays to some people (and it is only the minority of people - generally I have found over several years of ownership it is very well received).

Having now seen what David has had done to his DB9 I do wonder how he will find the Bentley. It is, as you say, a phenomenal car - not as engaging drive as his upgraded manual DB9 - but very quick with all of the extras already mentioned.
Yes, agree with all you say there Julian. Unfortunately during my ownership of our GT Speed my wife was the victim of one of those minority lowlife scumbags whilst filling up in a petrol station of all places. He got rather aggressive spouting venom. Needless to say she got rather scared and consequently never wanted to drive the Bentley again. I'm sure this was a rare occurrence and may well have happened if she was driving the Aston or Porker!

Dave, if I were to choose a Bentley again I'd have the GTC V8S as hornbaek says...phenomenal machine.

Bloody hell Frankie! Was he having a go at her because of the car (obviously I assume so)? I miss the days when people actually respected others who had worked hard and done well in life.

My GT Mulliner is fantastic but I agree that the GT/GTC Speed or the GT/GTC V8S are staggering machines.

To be fair Frankie that was all your fault , a gentleman should never let his wife fill up with petrol , that's a mans job.

Speculatore, I used to own a Continental GT some years back. I remember it being the smoothest car I'd ever driven. Lot's of torque and the best interior ever: pure luxury with things such as the massaging seats and Breitling clock really adding to the special feeling.

However, one day I rented out a DB9. It was slower, more uncomfortable and far less practical and yet I couldn't get the experience out of my head:

  • The sound
  • The handling
  • The looks
  • The x factor
And because of that a few months later I ended up buying a V8 Vantage. My first Aston.

So, like other people have said: The Bentley is better in so many ways but an Aston is something you actually WANT to drive. Have both and you'll be happy.

Or just get a Vanquish like I did and you really do have the best of both worlds... wink

As a lucky owner of both, I cant fault a word you have said.

The Bentley really is the 'better' car, its only problem is that it is not an Aston. Therein lies the dilemma.

I love them both for completely different reasons - the Bentley, because it is so good. The Aston, because it make ME feel so good.

I hope that makes some sort of sense!

It's not as though the choice is between a GTC and a DB9. I already have a very special DB9 which I have 'Made my own'. I just cant stop thinking about the GTC.... I need someone to come to my house and show me that it doesn't fit in the garage....Problem solved....

[ You might say the car in this photo is not a GTC model (whatever that is), but it is a Bentley. ]

Here is another '... Problem solved ...' reason.

As an Aston Martin DB9 owner, I am sure you must be a person who is always very considerate to others.
You might not want to change, to Bentley driver behaviour.

Brow of a hill, the apex of a corner, completely blocking the pavement.

The driver is probably not in the least bothered, that this picture appeared on the village circular.

David, if you want to borrow mine for a week then PM me. It's no problem but you will have to get up to Nottingham (and obviously bring it back!) and pay for full insurance whist you have it.

Mine is the original GT Mulliner, not the new GTC, but the offer is there.

It is a seriously good car (not for sale or thrashing around in though).

PM me about it.

Hi Julian,
I am off to Papua New Guinea tomorrow for 2 weeks (work) so if your offer is still on when I get back then yes I would like to take it up as an extended 'Test Drive' (Certainly no thrashing).
The wife is from Nottingham (Arnold) so we can combine the visit.

Many thanks

David

I'm looking to sell my Bentley Continental GT coupe 2004 plate, 114k miles, Black exterior, Cream interior, great condition. Driven regularly. Value circa £22,000 and I'm looking for a swap deal for a Maserati, AMG Mercedes, Porsche 911 or similar, with cash my way. Please contact me if you have any thoughts on a deal!

Hi, Obviously need to sell the DB9 first but I will be looking for a 2007/2008 GTC with around 30,000 on the clock. I have my eye on 3 at the moment so hopefully one of them will be available once the Aston goes.
