Short but enjoyable review even if it involves a Datsun.

Does go to show that even with the improvements, the V12Vs is still traction limited on acceleration. That makes it slower, but a lot more fun.
During my test drive of the V12Vsm I had asked my accompanying pro driver why they didn't just engineer in wider rubber at the rear. The answer was that that would make it less fun.

Indeed it's frustrating when you get to the whole 'it's better because it's flawed' arena of arguments but there's no doubt there's some validity to it. Getting in my V12V is always an event, whether going to the shops, commuting, just going out for the sake of it or going on a road trip. A lot of that is down to the very firm suspension, the difficulties driving in less than ideal weather, the manual box, the lightweight seats, etc

As a second car, if getting into it didn't feel like such an event, I'd leave it in the garage more and use the DD more often instead.

Is it for sale ? It's not advertised anywhere, but appears to be for sale from the youtube video. If so, have they specced a manual V12VS (including using Q according to their video) solely to stick on the showroom floor ? Rather naughty if that's whats happened

Looks awesome

Although that Music is more suitable to a garden sprinkler advert I would happily listen to it instead of some salesman rambling on about the spec. (and getting it wrong usually)

I'd really want that Flugplatz manual S as it's perfect spec for me but is it really worth what realistically would be an additional £60k on top of my 14k miler Mako V12V??!!

You may well be correct, but a quick search of classifieds for £50k cars revealed I could keep my Mako beast and supplement it with a BMW M2/3/4/5/6!!, boxster GTS, Nissan GTR, or a selection of Bentley Continentals!

Really brings it into perspective, no?

Sure does, for way less than 50k, I got a B7 RS4 Avant and an Alfa Brera 3.2 Prodrive, both very low mileage and basically as good as new. So I'm now in V6, V8 and V12 heaven. All keepers.

Oh come on, I'm sure you know that you can't compare a 5yr old car to a brand new one and say they are just worth the same and you don't see the value in the upgrade. The vast majority of that £50/£60k is depreciation, plain and simple.

Sure you may not have lost that much on what you paid, but the market and discount levels available on a new V12V back then were completely different to how they are today.

There are 101 ways of looking at the cost of buying a brand new car, and its quite easy to spin the man maths the other way if you so choose - for instance what value for 3yrs warranty on a new car - say £5k; whats the value of the power hike - maybe £10k; plus the sports exhaust - say £3k; plus the adjustable suspension - say £3k; a new car comes with £500 of road tax; so that's 50% of it there in just those few items and that's all before you have even factored in the fact the newer car will be worth a lot more when it comes to selling for a fair few years yet.

It's quite easy to make an upgrade to a new car look good value too if you try too, but ignore those and for sure it looks like poor value. You may or may not see a value in any of the above items on the V12VS, but I'm just pointing out that the comparison is not as one-dimensional as you are trying to portray, but then you know that really I reckon.

I have seen people doing the math from two cars to a sports car DD to additional used DD and then dumping the additional used DD and go for a brand-new DD and each time it was a business case

But I get your point; I must say that if I would have the space to keep them all dry and warm, I would tend to go for more cars instead of the better version of a current one... as Phil said: there is more than V12 heaven, there are so cool straight and V's out there with 4,5,6 and 8 cylinders in different body forms, na, turbo- or supercharged, RWD or AWD, I could name immediately 10-20 cars I would like to own in the 30-50k area (well, I would have to quit my job to be able to drive them all approiately).

That line of thinking can be applied at many levels. I justified buying my V12 on the basis I'd sell my V8 and Exige and have the one car. However is the difference between the V8 and the V12 enough to warrant not having the Exige?

However the differences between a V12V and a V12VS manual are fewer / less significant. So for me I'd prefer to have a V12V and another car like an Exige or how about a Rapide?

Isn't it a stock car rather than a ex-demo, therefore the starting asking price will be RRP. Stock cars of course always attract bigger discounts than factory orders, but less than demos - so give the ex-demo cars are around £25k off list it seems logical to assume you could probably buy this one for somewhere in between. So Flugplatz probably isn't that far off - perhaps even a little more if you really push them and they have had it a while in stock.

In my case I kept my V12V and in a fit of "green" replaced my daily driver with a Cayenne e-hybrid

I can see both sides of the argument here. My problem is that I do not like the Halfords go faster colour additions on some of the new cars. If the V12s manual in silver on Astons website did not have the white mouth and sills and had an original grill I would quite like it. I know I could order one but then the cost to change is too much for a car that is under utilised.

I agree, some of the V12SM 'specs' look like the option list was indeed filled out in an opticiens, so many are vile!

I wonder if they'll be a carbon edition that doesn't look like a dogs dinner.

I've been and seen the flugplatz car in Edinburgh - imho, it's a fantastic colour - I'd be very happy to own a V12SM in this colour with lightweights, and a few other bits and bobs
