Hi

Been looking around for a v8 vantage for a while. Found what I thought was the perfect example... But it doesn't have satnav.

I've heard it's pretty useless... Is it that bad?

Resale value - will it be affected?

Thanks

12 of us went on a Eurohoon in May ranging from V8V through to Garmin equipped DBS. We all used TomTom's. yes

Can't comment on values though.

Hi,
Yes it's that bad. I used it once , finally found out how to shut the screen and its remained closed since. And mines a 2010 version,

If the rest of the car ticks the boxes I would say not to worry about the nav.

(I have a Jan 06 car) With the later CD I find the nav perfectly adequate for occasional simple use, but its the same as any car - Once its been out 2 to 3 years the tech is out of date.

Most of the time your smartphone on the dash with live data using google or Waze will be much better to use as a daily navigation tool with real time traffic updates.

The resale thing is really an individual buyer thing, depends how much value they place on having a 12 year old Volvo sat nav system wink MOst vantages were specced with navigation, so if a car does not have it, maybe it sways the decision of a potential purchaser. Its a bit like premium stereo, some wont buy a car without it, to others even the "standard" stereo is good enough.

I wouldnt say navigation or premium stereo etc makes a car worth more, but certainly the more options you have the more the potential customer base come resale. A bit like buying in "safe" colours versus some lairy colour scheme.....

As you are indeed questioning the absence of this option, it might well put off buyers at resale time.

Obviously satnav technology has moved forward considerably since the 'Volvo' system, and I understand many people now rely on their smart phones for in-car navigation.

I only use the Vantage satnav on rare occasions, and with the exception of one bizarre journey which ended going round in circles, it has navigated correctly.

Perhaps the car you have found might have rarity value. Do you think it might be the only one ever produced without this option? The original owner must have preferred an exhaust sound rather than the navigation voice.

No it's not really that bad.

It needs the later DVD/full postcode. And it's not the last word in nav. But it works most of the time - got me around Spain and Portugal OK.

Far more irritating on my 2007 car was audio connectivity.

It works fine. It doesn't track as smoothly as a tomtom or a more modern in-car system but it's umpteen years old. I've never had an issue with it and it has saved me on a couple of occasions.

The screen doesn't display any other info like BMW/Audi/MB etc systems so it's not the end of the world if it's not fitted.

The Satnav with updated disks isn't that bad. It works perfectly adequately as a navigation tool and I certainly would have been put off a car without it.

I always thought the satnav was standard on the Vantages, with the option to delete if not wanted, but why would you do that?

I think I'm one of the minority, I don't see much wrong with the sat nav, it works the odd occasion I need it too, but I accept like all technology is well out of date no.

Personally I still wouldn't consider an Aston without it though, I would move to the next advert.

+1 to most of the other comments.

I've found it perfectly adequate when I've needed it (and it's leagues ahead of my Cayenne sat nav). I wouldn't have bought a car that had no sat nav, even though it's rarely used.

Bah. I never use my satnav, but it has failed recently (I only know because the screen pops up), and judging by a lot of the views here I will need to get it fixed to stand best chance of selling my car when the time comes.

Maybe I should offer to throw in a free TomTom..

Congratulations on the purchase. You won't regret it. I've had all manner of sports cars and this is the one that makes me smile all the time.
