After a lot of thinking and research, I really want to get a 4.3 or 4.7 litre manual V8V Roadster - in black if possible (I don't like the 2-tone effect of a different roof colour) - for no more than £50k, but I can see that's being pretty specific and is likely to mean I'm going to have to wait a good while for one to come along. I'd be interested to hear your views on that - I don't want to compromise but do you think it's going to be a really long wait? Also any thoughts on where I should look - I'm keeping my eyes on the Aston Martin pre-owned website and I'm in contact with Garry at Grange Brentwood, plus I'm monitoring the McGurk and Nicholas Mee websites. Anywhere else you recommend? I'm only really interested in buying through a reputable dealer. Thanks

Good choice, that is the same spec as mine. I'd be surprised if you had to wait too long, as black is not exactly rare.

I would probably hold out for a 4.7 at that budget. Or even go for the N420 if you can find one smile

You could argue that this is slightly over-priced based on mileage (do NOT be put off by 39k miles though!) and I think John has had it in stock for a while.

Given we're coming out of summer (allegedly cool), could be worth a cheeky offer?

Thanks for that, I had spotted it before but ruled it out as being out of my price range. Following your response I figured I'd contact them to see if I could get a deal, and while I'm waiting on that I'd be interested to hear any other views on the car. It's got a few optional features like the sports pack/sports pack alloy wheels and front parking sensor, which I guess partly explains the price, and I love the look of it especially with the red calipers. Not sure about the red stitching, it's a bit of a statement and I wonder if it's partly why it hasn't sold as it wouldn't be too everyone's taste...

I think it hasn't sold because it's a 39k mile V8VR and they want £55k for it biggrin

For some reason, AM's are overly mileage sensitive, but they really are bullet proof and an average of 5k miles a year really isn't high mileage!

Spec-wise it's perfect, and the red stitching works well with Onyx and those calipers. The wheels alone are worth c£2.5k and the Sport Pack suspension is really nicely tuned (I've had 4.7 V8VRs with and without Sport Pack).

They're a good bunch at McGurk's so best thing would be to see it in the metal and take it for a driving

Lovely looking car, sportpack makes a difference, my favourite wheels on a V8V and the red stitching I think goes really well. It will be in very good condition if at McGurks, they are very picky about their stock which is why they have a very good reputation.

Get over there and give it a go, you've nothing to lose.

Adam, your post was fairly cogent so I assume you're not with the other Herbert's in town?

That car appears to have made it to the Pistonheads home page (would you rather have that or a new Audi TT?)

So...I did the deal on Friday and (subject to the finance coming through) I'm planning to pick the car up this Saturday, and I'm pretty damn excited. Thanks to everyone for their input, especially Adam for suggesting the car. I have a couple of questions before then: I love the sound of the car but perhaps could do with it being a bit louder at low revs - what are people's views (sorry if this has already been discussed in the past) about removing fuse 22? Does it make it a bit too noisy with the roof down? Also, my Ferrari 360 is just about ok getting over some pretty horrendous but unavoidable speed bumps near my flat - I'm assuming (hoping) the V8V has better ground clearance?

Cheers

Fuse 22......what fuse 22?? Get it out and sellotape it to the inside of the fuse box.
Ground clearance....well i had a 911 C4S and my V8V clears the same local bumps and humps the 911 would scrape.

Ive got the fuse out of my V8 and its still not loud enough

I think I need decats and have been swithering for ages. One day I like it as it is, next day it's not loud enough hehe

Congratulations aswell!

Congratulations Tony, - lovely looking car. Get rid of F22 as a starter for 10, and if that doesn't do it for you then you might consider a different exhaust. V8V clears all speed bumps I encountered when I had one. Never had a problem. Pictures when you get it please!!

Congratulations, a great choice. Enjoy.

You can experiment with fuse 22, to decide whether you want it in or out.
I recently fitted a remote switch. It all easily fits inside the fuse box in just a few minutes, without needing any cutting of the lid. I leave it in the fuse-out position, but can simply press the fob whenever I want quiet-mode.

If the road humps comply with the height requirement, the V8V will clear. I am sure that you know, to always put one wheel on the pad-type humps. People seem surprised, when told they need new tyres, not because the tread has worn, but because the inside tyre shoulders are damaged.

I have issues with the odd speedbump, but only when they are clearly bigger than they should be - the thing that gets whacked the most is the mudguards (or whatever Aston's name for them is) - they're pretty big, and not actually attached all that well.

I'm picking it up on Saturday, does anyone have any thoughts as to things I ought to get them to show me before driving back to London - functions/other stuff that aren't obvious but would be really worth knowing (it's a 2009 model with sportspack)? Also, anything else I should get them to do or sell me - I'm getting a cover and CTEK charger and I'll get fuse 22 removed after all the handy feedback so far. Photos to follow...

Exciting times Tony.

The handbrake works in the normal manner but can be a puzzle, because when not being operated, the lever remains close to the floor. This is because James Bond sometimes wears trousers with turnups. If they should became caught on the handbrake, it would mean reshooting the whole scene. - smile

You will need to get used to other road users being so polite. Pulling out of side roads is easy in an Aston Martin.

Enjoy your car.

Hi Tony,

Congratulations on your new toy. I did send you a PM earlier this week, hope it was useful.

One thing to pay attention too is the location of the fuel filler release button which is tucked away and which side the filler cap is on (Nearside) smile A bit embarrassing when you pull up to the local petrol station and you have to jump out of the car to check which side its on.

Hopefully they will program in your home address into the Satnav,
If your car has bluetooth, get them to pair your phone for you.

Hope it's nice and sunny so you can really enjoy the trip home

Regards
Dave

Congratulations Tony (soon to be TonyV8VR?)!

It really is a lovely example and I hope you got the deal you were after.

Most of the collecting stuff has been covered above and there's lots of options if you feel the exhaust is muted (I just do without F22 on mine, but many people have de-catted or replaced the exhaust and/or manifolds).

Definitely don't leave without getting your phone hooked-up and definitely DO take the scenic route home biggrin

Enjoy Saturday and look forward to pics and your report back thumbup
