Is your ambient temp displaying a very high or very low temperature? If so, that sensor could be causing the problem. When the ambient temperature sensor goes bad, it sends bad signals, telling the car that it's either extremely hot or extremely cold outside. This triggers some failsafes to prevent heat/cold damage to certain components. If your outside temps are displaying wrong, replace that sensor and it might fix the roof issue as well.

Yes my outside temperature sensor has just gone faulty, thank you for this information,I would never have related the two problems. I will get a new sensor and see if that sorts the roof problem.
Thank you again for that.

Had similar problem 2 weeks ago in my v8v roadster. Message said to open roof stop. Ambient temperature sensor not working. Spent approx £25 with Astonmartin bits on ambient temperature sensor and 20 minutes of my time and all sorted. Good luck
