Rapide has a Car Pro C Quartz coating. She needed a huge clean after the Highlands, so gave her the usual pressure rinse, snow foam, rinse, 2 bucket mitt and shampoo, rinse. And then I tried something new - Hydro Foam. Diluted it 1-9 and foamed it on without further dilution, gave her a quick mitt over and then rinse. Blow dried her - it was just flying off. Ended up very very glossy and very smooth and slick. So slick I seriously couldn't get the car cover back on in the garage - it just kept slipping off. V impressive.

The say you can use the foam as the shampoo itself and just rinse that off. That could be a good solution for light dirt as all the other steps are quite time consuming.

[Not on commission honest]

Do you apply the HydroFoam after you've washed the car?

I have done so. With all dirt and dust removed before I would say it is better. After washing you are able to foam, mitt and rinse without getting swirls. And the result is just perfect. But it depends on the condition. I think if your car is more or less clean and you want to have it glossy and shiny, just rinse it before and foam it.

Great result Anthony!

I tried it on the missus car and DD today - both a bit old and swirly. After a pressure rinse I foamed both of them and then gave a seriously quick light wipe over all panels with a microfibre mitt. Really great result for 20 mins for two cars! So good I even sold one of them and he thought it looked amazing and so shiny for a 12 yr old car!

The Aston unless really super lightly soiled will probably always get the Bilt Hamber thick pre foam, 2 bucket shampoo and lambswool mitt as before by hand, but if it just needs a quick little spruce up for handprints and light dust and to add some extra glossiness then this alone is absolutely great!

Can you post a link please Francis as my Q2M Bathe+ has nearly run out? So if my car isn't very dirty (which it rarely is) then how many stages do I need to do? Can I just snowfoam it then use the stuff Dewi recommends or do I need to do 3 stages: snow foam, 2 bucket wash and then the Hydrofoam? Does the Hydrofoam go in a bucket or via a foaming lance?

There's a recommendation :-) This is the stuff Pete https://carpro.uk.com/products/reset-maintenance-s... Nicer than what my missus uses (and more expensive)! Some sites do it carriage free.

On the Hydrofoam they said to dilute it 1:9 first and close the valve on the foam lance (so as it doesn't get diluted more). If car is dirty I would personally do the std process of thicker foam/shampoo etc first . The Hydrofoam will add less than 5 mins at the very end and literally halves the blow drying time. Sorry I sound like Vidal Sasooon! biggrin

What is "harsh" about SLS in a car shampoo?

Thanks Dewi. Maybe I'll give them both a try then. Ashamed to admit that I'm still a towel drier. I think if I started blow drying my car my wife would just rip the piss out of me more than I could take.

I still dry my car with a genuine chamois leather, i'm trying to improve the way I clean my car, is towel drying better?

I think the consensus is that towels are generally better as they're easier to care for. They just go in the washing machine (without softener!). See this for more.

Never seen that before. Does it stop the white marks left by hard water?

I think they're mostly for clearing water traps (door handles, mirrors etc). You'd still need a towel.

Ideally you'd dry with water.. :-)
