I am the second owner of a 2009 DB9 and just noticed a small module under the dash which appears to be remote tire pressure/temperature monitor.
Are these units battery powered or hot wired? How do they work? It looks likes the only thing it can do is light up if there is a tire problem. See attached picture.
Thanks

That's the TPMS - tyre pressure monitoring system. It's colour coded to each individual wheel so if you get a low pressure warning, you can identify which one by the colour of the valve stem on the wheel. As for the electrics, no idea. HTH.

The central module is connected to the car's power through the main harness. The individual sensors in each wheel are battery powered, and the batteries aren't meant to be serviceable (although some people do dig them out to replace the batteries).

Thanks. Is the unit always on when the car is running or do I have to hit a power button? It looks like there is a power button to the left of the 4 led lights.

BTW, I assume this was an after market device installed by previous owner and not something that was standard on the '09 DB(.

It's original/OEM from Aston, always on when the car is on. When the module has a warning, it will display on the gauge cluster, so don't worry about sticking your head down there to check those lights on it till you get a warning message in the gauge cluster.

Thank you all very much. You have been very helpful. Most cars costing half as much have tire pressure readings available on the information displays that can be called up at will. Despite this, none are as nice looking as the DB9 in my opinion. I am guessing the DB11 will be so equipped.

Dash display of tyre pressures standard on Vantage from MY 2014 onwards so I presume same for DB9.

I have also found the SmartTire device, mine does not seem to be connected to anything? The connector is just hanging down and there does not seem to be a connector for it to connect to?? Any idea as to where is connects?

I'm guessing you have an '07 or earlier car? They unplugged it to disable it. If you plug it in, you'll probably get tire warnings. Chances are the battery in one or more sensor went dead and the previous owner didn't want to pay for replacement (they can be expensive for what they are). Very common for people to unplug or 'trick' the TPMS module rather than pay for sensor replacements.

Having just reprogrammed my 2008 Aston Martin Vantage Smartire TPMS system to accept Autel sensors I thought I'd start a separate post to let everyone know that this is a simple process as long as you have the Autel TS508 hand held programming device and Autel MX sensors. These must be bought from a bonafide distributor such as Euro Car Parts as there are an awful lot of counterfeit ones on eBay etc. The TS508 is expensive tool at £479.99 and at the moment comes with four metal valve sensors and four rubber ones.

However for the price of a drink I'm happy to program your Autel MX sensors.

The procedure is very simple and straightforward as long as you have the serial number off your old Smartire Sensors, which can be read off the old sensors once they have been removed from the wheel.

If I can help please send me a PM.
