Very nice lady (local pub landlord's mother) was looking at the car (from the side) yesterday and asked me 'Is it a Crossfire?' Being a polite chap I made no mention of Specsavers, but a Crossfire?? Really??

Sorry, just needed to share.. smile

You should have told them its a corsa with a bodykit and loud exhaust - and it's supposed to look like a Ferrari. ;-)

I had someone say yesterday "is that an R8?", which I thought was odd, but that's a lot better than calling it a crossfire biggrin

When I booked my car in for wheel refurb yesterday, the lady asked if it was a Vantage or a Vanquish because she always got the two confused - but I think that's a much more reasonable question than whether it's a crossfire!

Years ago when I had a 348, a mini bus pulled up next to me at some lights and one of the (very) drunk passengers shouted out 'Oi, mate - is that an MR2 with a body kit?'. Seemed easier to say yes - which resulted in much 'Told ya!' and laughing in the mini bus. Ignorance is apparently bliss.

Very funny.
One of your best avinalarf jokes, Steven.

This makes me wonder.

I am sure that you cannot be a gentleman that mixes with people who own a Skoda car, but I can reveal, that if they happen to say I have a Skoda, they always follow that with, "It is a Volkswagen underneath".

Could it be that they really wanted a VW , but were too mean to pay the extra?

Do Crossfire owners say, "It is a Mercedes-Benz SLK underneath?

Just kidding. - smile

Your wife's car looks very, err black.

I don't know what other Crossfire owners say and care even less.
I do know that my wife wanted something a bit different and a convertible.
She's had the car for 5 years, and never had any problems.
I've driven it and it's ok,nothing extra special, but for the money I paid quite adequate and good value.
The coupe is a bit marmite but I think the roadster looks ok.
The car is black.....that's why it looks black.
I don't care what car a person drives as long as it's not an Audi.
Nothing against an Audi,it's a good car but Audi drivers are a PITA,they probably used to drive BMW's and have transferred their aggressive, thoughtless driving habits when they switched allegiance.

Just got my mum a Skoda. It is brilliant I have to say and I have used it more than her (I am kindly 'running it in' for her). It is definitely a Skoda and I am quite proud of that smile

The thinking man's choice I say.

Yes Steven, I too have noticed that behaviour has become less BMW and more Audi. I keep out of their way, which is probably what they want, whilst trying to achieve their employment targets. In my job, I have no need to hurry, particularly when driving my Aston. Why risk one's licence, when just the looks of the car says FAST?

A most kind and generous gift for your mother.
Perhaps my children might follow your example.

Are they still fitted with heated rear windows?
Oh I am sorry, it is avinalarf who does the jokes around here.

I read on Jaguar forum that people always ask F-type owners, is that an Aston Martin? No ones ever asked if my Vantage is a Jaguar. But a Crossfire? WTF

Over the last 3 years of using this forum I sometimes wonder what other people's jobs are and occasionally try to guess. Some are obvious, some not at all. You don't give much away Jon apart from often being the first to comment on AML sales figures etc. so I guess it's something in business but that's pretty broad, isn't it? So, fancy satisfying my curiosity and letting us know what you do? Don't mind at all if you don't, just curious. FWIW I am a Consultant Vascular & Interventional Radiologist - you're probably none the wiser but essentially I am a person plumber.

You are very astute Pete, but that goes without saying in your profession.
I very much respect people in your position, because to begin with, top results are required throughout education.

'Don't give much away': I am quite wary of the internet, so try to keep fairly anonymous. No number plate photos etc.

'Something in business': Right again. A sort of mini Warren Buffet (although extremely poor in comparison), with exactly the same long-term philosophy. An activity which allows me time to step back, and try to think logically, about what might be happening in the field of business and economics. A dream job for me, but one has to have a proper job for many years first.

Dear Jon.......You've always struck me as more Hyacinth Bucket than Warren Buffet.

Sorry Richard (OP), hope you do not mind us going off-topic.

Dear Steven,

Very funny. Hilarious even, with the appropriate rhyming pronunciation.
You are a real wit. - No, I said wit.

Now we are on the sub-topic of jobs, I am convinced that your talents have taken you into the higher reaches of comedy script writing. Perhaps you were that mystery anonymous writer for the Two Ronnies.

All your talk about running an agency providing special services, an introducer to Russian ladies, and being a big cheese in retail, is possibly all just to confuse us. - smile

Thanks Jon but I actually don't think getting good A-level grades is a particularly good discriminator of "intelligence" - whatever that is. I meet plenty of doctors who I don't think are particularly "smart". In some ways I have the most respect for people who have built a successful business up from nothing and there seem to be quite a few of those on here. I just find it quite interesting how varied the routes are to gaining the means to be an Aston Martin owner and sometimes find myself guessing what route those that don't declare their occupation in their profile have taken.
