The Red Trouser thing...... heard this a couple of times now, searched PH, used google, nada, not found any connection to Aston Martin.... where did the Aston/red trouser thing begin?

Cheers,
Chilli smile

I believe its a tongue in cheek reference to the old school traditional english gentleman customer base of largely pre gaydon era Aston Martins, which i found was surprisingly accurate when I went to a AMOC show in Greenwich some years ago.

As gibbon says it's a running ,tongue in cheek, joke on the AMOC forum.
Several years ago Russell ,an AMOC member, started a topic called " redtrouserwkeritis " that basically took the weewee out of the habit of some AMOC members to wear red trousers at AMOC events.

Thanks for the info fellas, rather weirdly though, I can feel the beginnings of an urge coming on to buy some red trousers, join the AMOC, and go to the first meet I can...

Oh dear!!!

It's not the red trousers that you should fear,it's the red panties and bra that they wear underneath.

And what's wrong with red panties and bra - much better than black or grey?

Do red trousers and a beard go well together?"................. smile

More seriously the 'fashion' (or tradition) of red trousers comes from sailors. Those who crossed the atlantic on a sailboat at least once in their lives wear red trousers to send the message out.

Clothing designers like Ralph Lauren and others played on the theme and the whole thing has now been diluted.

Other than for the original meaning behind wearing them, i'd say that people wearing them are generally desperate attention seekers...

Agree....

So, I'm planning on doing my annual clothes shopping expedition later this week (I try and restrict it to a once a year exercise). Now however, I just know, with a fairly high degree of certainty, that if I see red trousers (in a size that fits me), I WILL have to buy them... no question... I'm spending Christmas in a spa hotel in the Peak District this year... how cool would it be to pitch up in the bar Christmas morning with the Aston parked outside and wearing red trousers... I mean really, how cool would that be?????
