Sleaford and North Hykeham by-election
Discussion
With Richmond going LD on pretty much with brexit as a single issue, and with it voting 60% remain in the referendum, the LD's winning it was not that big a surprise.
Next Thursday though, its the Sleaford and North Hykeham by-election, they voted 60%+ leave and the Conservative's having 56% of the 2015 vote, and every single party seems the be campaigning there.
This is closest thing we could have to an acid test of what the people on UK really think about brexit, have they changed their minds? or are the LD's pissing into the wind?
We will know the morning of the 9th.

They stand little chance of winning, but it will be interesting to see if their vote % jumps.
It will be the 3rd acid test post brexit, not just in the area that is pro-Brexit. Everyones vote and MP counts. Camerons seat saw a big shift to LD too.
The tory MP who quit was not happy with hard brexit, was he?
IMO this is a test of UKIP's strength. Labour were a poor second last time with UKIP only 2% behind them in third. UKIP need to roundly trounce Labour to cement their position, which would match what happened in the Police and Crime Commissioner elections earlier in the year.
What's interesting in Lincolnshire is that they have their own political movement - the Lincolnshire Independents. Last year they polled almost as much as the Lib Dems, and I would imagine that given what's happened they'll be looking to push Farron's mob down into fifth.

It's the most pro Brexit area in the country, or next door to it. It's 100% safe Cons and has been for ever. It's not at all a bellwether seat or area. I predict no change and a low turnout. The constituents have got what they want and have nothing to protest about or desire to change.

Both Richmond Park and my constituency (Witney) did not see a 'big shift' to LDums.
Both were low turnouts.
Here is my post pre Richmond on that thread
'Turnout much lower than GE.
Oh god, no, Lib-Dum Olney is going to have a chance now
...Farron is going to be all over the news.'
See. Spot on!
Neither was a 'big surprise' as the Lib-Dums 'spent out' on each - ffs! I was getting phone calls from them at the last minute in the Witney one and I have NEVER voted Lib-Dum in my life, they must have been going through the phone directory! It was tantamount to intimidation. I have voted in elections since the 60s, I have been at the old rallies where heckling was the norm (no violence nor intimidation like today) but never have I experienced anything like the Dums campaign. Ever! I even got (albeit printed) 'handwritten' letters from the Lib-Dum candidate. I even got their crap twice in one day! They really must have spent a fortune (which they haven't really got).
They were annihilated at the last G. Election, and they will be again at the next.

Death by a thousand (over exaggerated) cuts?I'd like to have seen you cowering in fear of their oppresive rhetoric.
The Lib Dems got THREE times more votes in 2016 than in 2015 in Witney, DESPITE turnout of only 38,000 votes, down from 58,000 at the GE.
He is having nightmares about the Lib Dems. I fear for his mattress.

And what the fk is a matress?
Can you learn to spell. PLEASE!
It would give some, albeit not much, credence to your pathetic re-moaning.

Christmas is too near. Most people don't give a ste, their minds will and are clearly fixed on the festive period. End of. Prediction, low turnout, again.
People have voted LEAVE, the remainers in the area will vote because their Xmas is soured and they will vote in the hope that they can jump up and down to keep warm in the cold as their paltry vote 'appears' just like Richmond and Witney, to have increased.
The rest of us will laugh and get on with the business in hand, Xmas.
PS
Was in a shop in Witney late today and overheard this. A young lad in a retail shop on his first day of work. Supervisor(?) came over to him and says ‘Don’t look so worried, you’ve been like this most of the day, you’re doing fine, we are all like that initially, cheer up and keep greeting the customers. Anyway, when we close don’t go off, we are having champagne (well, bubbly of sorts) come and have a glass – our takings today are up by over 30%!’
Bad Brexit times, eh?
Only for remoaners.

The Lib-Dems run a campaign on Brexit in Richmond that overwhelmingly voted remain in the EU referendum, and it was a big surprise that the Lib-Dems won!
The turnout was markedly small, as most sat at home because the result was never going to be in doubt, as evidenced by the swing.
You are a comedian, and that's being polite!

Witney without an h is your constituency.
A mattress with two ts is what you appear to be wetting.
Spelling was my error, totally failing to recognise the surge in Lib Dem support post brexit in your own by election was yours.
(oh and you forgot to capitalise the w in where - fail!)

OMG! The bar to being an MP seems to have fallen.
Are these misfits the brightest and the best representation that the electorate of Sleaford deserve?
UKIP unhinged bit harpy
Labour confused bin man
Lib Dem mr blinky "I can't remember my lines" probably at college.
Cons - "I'm not coming out" and here's why, an interview earlier.

Labour bloke - totally remain pretending and failing to want to get on with brexit as thats what the voters what to hear. They won't be convinced.
Lib Dem - I assume he has some skills and abilities but what do you think they are?
Tory - seemed surprised to get a question on brexit. Single Market? On no must not talk about that. Oh dear!
