In those 30 minutes, what else was negotiated apart from the mats?
Tea with milk no sugar and that was about all I got. I started by requesting a next service, a grand off, 12 months road tax and rubber mats. Their mad comment was that "Their prices are checked daily and its excellent value as it already is sir!" Bonkers way to sell cars and so I bought from Grange.

Oh, I almost forgot, it was a no trade in type deal.

As with all things in life it pays to shop around - got a lower mileage, younger car from a dealer that would do a deal and also saved thousands comparably. Some of these big groups stick it out there and only drop the price in their own time if the car sits... Their business - my feet!

Just bought a BMW from Sratstones in Leeds and to be fair they were very good. The car was well priced and I did my usual this is what I need cost to change routine. After doing the deal but having not yet paid a deposit the car was reduced by head office by £600. This was despite the fact the car was at least a grand cheaper than elsewhere and believe me having just been stuck away for a week I had time to check. Overall very happy.

I bought my V8V Roadster 08 in October from HWM in Walton. I had been lurking and looking for quite a while over the summer and looked at a few in the flesh both privately and from dealers. To be honest the prices for comparable cars were not that much different. It was a matter of hundreds not thousands of pounds.

When I enquired about the one I bought the salesmen were polite and friendly (as you would expect....they are trying to get you to part with £45k!)....but they wouldn't budge on the price. I was a bit miffed but some goodies were thrown in, tour around the factory, tank of petrol, trade price service when due and even a t shirt for my nipper.

All in all, i was quite happy as the Aston 12 month warranty was worth the peace of mind, and at the end of the day, these cars are only worth what some one is willing to pay for them.

Never understand this 'absolutely no discount' mentality. Only works if you're the only people in the country selling the product, of which they're not.

I sell Bang & Olufsen A/V kit for a living and it's a cut throat world out there. I wouldn't sell anything unless I could dip a bit here and there.
Sheer bloody mindedness on Stratstone's part IMO.

At least they gave you something and you were happy which counts IMHOP. HWM are excellent and very friendly which is more than can be said for other marque dealers who either look down their stuck up noses at you or just simply ignore your presence in their showroom and eat their sandwiches. Very rude but totally their loss at the end of the day.

Looked at buying a car from them a month ago. Said they'd knock £500 off as long as they didn't have to refurb a wheel or deal with a scratch - not the type of service I'd expect from a decent dealer to be honest. They wouldn't shift any further. However when I checked last night the car is still for sale, and has just been reduced by £2k.

When the dealer knows they are going to reduce a car by £2k I'm surprised they don't get the salesperson to phone around their list of previously interested parties to say they've got permission to negotiate a little on the car and invite the customer back. If the salesperson was incentivised - e.g. keep 70% of the difference between price achieved and the £2k discount price on top of their std % commission - then they'd do a deal that would be leave everyone happy: the customer feels like they've negotiated a good deal, the dealer gets more than their £2k limit and the salesperson makes more ££.

That's because they would not like being told to F**koff by the nice people who originally wanted to buy the car in the first place but the idiot dealers would not play ball and were tight arses.

That makes a lot of sense, it will never happen!

Just spotted this thread.
Seems a strange subject to me. They have a car and a price that they're willing to accept. You want a car and have a price you want to pay.
If they match, happy days. If they don't you go your separate ways. There's nothing personal or insulting in any of that, surely?
I don't think I ever mentioned that I took it personally or was insulted by the refusal to negotiate?

Ultimately the car in question was more than I was willing to pay, which is why I wanted to get others opinions//experiences with said dealer and whether this was a common tactic. I'd never come across a blunt refusal to negotiate before, and is why I started the thread.
