I know this question comes round from time to time, although not within the last 12 months' or so as far as I could see.

I have my Cat included on a multi-car policy at the moment, which at £250 is actually decent value, however the figures on my lesser cars on the same policy are out of kilter which is making me look to change to single car policies.

I tried Flux for the Cat however it came back as expensive, any recommendations as to who to try?

interesting, as flux came out the cheapest for me. That said I wasn't keen to use them. I found their aggressively pitch offputting and wasn't all that sure they would support me all the well in event of an accident.

Although I haven't pulled the trigger yet, I'll be going with REIS. They were not hugely far off the flux cost, but with my partner included an an extra 2000 miles, as well as 4x track days covered as well. They were super friendly to deal with, very professional and I felt confident that should the worst happen, they'd be supportive.

I went with Lloyd White this year (who are "Caterham Insurance Services"). They were a little bit more expensive, but were willing to insure my other half and include 5 trackdays as part of the cover.

Are you sure the track days are included as 'part of the cover'? I'm with L and W and my quote would be about £180 less without the TD cover. They offer the quotes including TDs but it will drop a lot without.

What is your quote, if you don't mind? My policy is £645 with the TD cover. (2015 R400D, 220bhp with me and 33 yo son on policy.

damn that seems expensive... i'm quoted £300 (including underwriting and tax) for 4000 miles, my other half, and four track days on my 1.6 K

Yeah I added the trackday cover - it was either that or pay £45 per trackday with Greenlight.

Total cost was £394.89 for me (32 years old) and my other half (26 years old) for a Roadsport 140. It was a bit cheaper with just me on the policy and obviously cheaper without the trackday cover.

I guess postcode and how you store the car may come into it, but i'm paying almost £100 less for me (35 and partner 28 on a roadsport 120).

I suspect area may just be the deciding factor in those two prices.

Age of car, power and market value will play into it too - but yeah postcode makes the biggest difference.

I don't know how up to date this is, my current area is a D*, whereas my old house was in F* (central Cardiff).

I'm in the Norfolk countryside, car kept in a very secure garage. I have two other cars that each cost new about the same as the Caterham, well over £40K and I can insure both of them for less than the Caterham!

I'm told the high cost is down to the value and power of the car and my son's age. He isn't covered on TDs BTW, just me and I won't bother again. So I expect renewal will be around £450 this year.

I have been with Competition Cars who have recently been taken over by James Footman, so not sure what I'll be doing come renewal time! I did have 5 track days cover with Competition Cars, so will be looking for something similar.

How do you find the rating for your address and is their a scale that translates this into a loading?

also not sure how much stock i put in that list. I've moved between two postcodes that are in the same rating band, and yet i received a large reduction when i moved to my current address. I suspect its more complicated than a simple chart.

No doubt. I live in tiny village, but my postcode is shared with a few bigger towns nearby which probably explains why my quotes aren't much cheaper than they were in central Cardiff though.

I used to work for one of the comparison websites, insurance rating isn't a simple procedure and what seem like insignificant details can have a huge effect.

Footman James were by far the cheapest for me, under £150 for the year:

32yo main driver plus my wife and father.
Mirrored No claims (11yrs)
2016 Caterham Superlight 'Twenty'
Trackday cover additional - £50 for 1 or £125 for 3. This can be added during the policy at any time.
Garaged in Shropshire.

I would also point out that the trackday cover does not require you to give them notice of said track day. Plus they have a 14day cooling off period, so no reason why you couldnt add a trackday to the policy prior to the day and cancel straight after for a refund.

I should add that cover was for 5000 miles a year.

Yes but most don't go below 3000.

To give you some idea I was charged £81 to move from 3000 to 10000.

Thanks for this suggestion, I'm going with LW, they came up with the best quote and excellent customer service too.

MSM offer a 1500 mile policy.

Does any one have advice on how various companies handle claims, as that's what counts, not quibbling over £50 between different premiums, i.e. service over price
