I agree that Andy Palmer seems a breath of fresh air.
I have not met him but from what I have read and heard from people who know him, he seems a genuine enthusiast, willing to spend his own cash on a classic from the Company's back list, turn up and at club events, engage with the masses and (I guess, most importantly) push forward with a sensible future agenda for the Company.
I have a small Aston collection of six cars including a GT4. I recall when I did the bulk of the race season a few years back, the factory ran a car or two which the previous company heads frequently drove. Not once did these gents wonder up and down the pits to press the flesh with us lot or do a circuit of the factory hospitality tent. We were after all spending the price of a new Aston every year to compete in the series and many of us had an Aston road car or two. I felt, possibly unfairly, that the factory running a car and the cheeses driving it was nothing about (good) marketing but more about a nose in the trough freeby for the boys - so bad marketing.

I did once speak to David Richards at one of his race days, but thinking about it, did first have to attract his attention from within a transporter truck.
In contrast to your description of the previous management, an old friend competes at the back of the field in historic / classic saloon car racing. At one race meeting he found himself in the paddock parked next to a competitor he had never met before, named Andy Palmer. He told me that the man was very pleasant to talk to during the day, and they even 'diced' together for several laps on track. It was completely unknown to my friend, until I told him a few days later, that the AP he had met is CEO at Aston Martin.

On a more serious note. He's the head of the coolest car brand in the world. He should be dressed in savile rows finest wth a nice pair of Edward greens on his feet.
