When my first sprog came along in 1972 I had to sell my Lotus and buy something with room in the back.. logical choice was a 1275 Cooper S, my Dad had an 850 mini when I was learning to drive and I loved it, so Cooper S it was

Fast forward to 2004 (leaving out the divorce story and gruesome details), younger (than me by quite a bit) girlfriend wants a mini.. we find a nice one, black, racing stripes, minilites, various other bling bits.. It's actually a special edition thing from 1998 called a Studio 2.. Hmm I thought, special edition Must be special and collectable then

Anyway, sorry for long story, but, I've never been big on special editions to be honest.. here's a short list of the special editions of the much loved (not BMW) Mini

I like it, but you can keep the RBR headrests.
If you saw one of these on the road I am sure it would look pretty damn good. Sure it's not a HUGE effort by Q but I think it's worth having a tie up with RBR in the form of a road car, and why not make it the outgoing Vantage, which has been a cash-cow for Aston, relatively speaking, so lets have some fun with it before its swan song.
The cool thing is, people can spec their own car in silver & black, or... dayglow yellow with a blue interior and alligator skin calipers, or buy a special. Choice is a wonderful thing.

Jeez, this must go down as one of the wkiest 'specials' from any manufacturer. A special paint job - no its just fking blue you mongs, and a very tenuous racing link -ooh I can get the signature of a F1 driver on the sills. What a pile of utter crap, and as Jonby said the tossers in marketing couldn't even get the pictures to allign with the description.

When manufacturers get this desperate to sell end of line specials I awlays think of this dogs dinner

My view is that we should STOP referring to this Vantage Red Bull Racing Edition as a "Special".

Indeed, that car neither has been marketed as a "Special" (according to http://www.astonmartin.com/en/live/news/2017/02/20... nor it is a "Special".

And, I think, everyone here knows about the differences between these type of cars and those developed by the Special Project Division

Well they have tidied up the description a little - it's no longer referred to as having diamond quilt stitch seats or an alcantara wheel

They have also updated the site with a new Q brochure and although it's only being reported on one website, yet another re-launch of Q at Geneva

I can't help but think there is a hidden story here, because on it's own, whatever kind of an edition it is, it just looks a little embarrassing.

I also wonder who pays £160/170k or whatever this will cost, for a car by one manufacturer with the logo of another.

A little Q work for Geneva!

'Aston Martin is preparing its Geneva Motor Show stand for 2017, and alongside the new Vanquish S and AM-RB 001 that we've already seen will be a version of the DB11 designed to show off the British brand's 'Q by Aston Martin' personalisation service.

The DB11 at the show will be finished in Zafre Blue paint, with carbon fibre details on the splitter, sills, diffuser and door mirrors. The paint has also been applied to the wheels, giving the car a very distinctive look. On the inside is black semi-aniline leather upholstery with the Q logo embossed on the headrests, along with a colour-matched luggage set.'











This whole Q thing has an air of oversees appeal to it

You mean £160k for the V12? I don't think there will be a big premium asked for this particular variant relative to the standard car

This is what I don't get. If it wasn't Q, I'd agree

But it is a full blown Q badged car which theoretically should carry a £20k premium

If it does, it's barmy but if it doesn't, it devalues Q which they are currently relaunching

The wheels on that DB11 are awful. I guess the target is the Middle or Far East.

New broom at Aston, same old same old. He needs to sweep away the marketing team IMO. Assuming they are broadly the same, they have little clue...

Their problem is that in releasing so many run outs so early they hobble being able to do much further down the line.
