Topgear series 2
Discussion
Just watched episode 2 and enjoyed it much more than episode 1.
To be fair, the fact that the first feature was on an Alfa Romeo and I bought an Alfa Romeo yesterday probably helped. But the '911 turbo isn't a supercar' argument was interesting given how often I've seen that discussed on PH.
Definitely better than I expected after episode 1.

I thought the high mileage piece was good - and trying to keep this thread AM related - should serve as a reminder to us all that these fantastic cars we own were born to be driven.........a lot!
Many of us are guilty of only putting a handful of miles on them fearing depreciation or maybe, because we might wear them out in some way. I defy anyone that's been to an endurance race not to be blown away by how hard the cars work in a single race.
So go enjoy!
PS - think I'll take the beemer today. No need to nudge it over 1000 miles on the work commute.

For me there were three people that ruined Top Gear and that was Clarkson, Hammond and May. (Especially Hammond). Yes, for a while they made it great but come on after so many years of the same old 'jokes' it became a pathetic programme about three ego's.
I thought the 'Evans' programmes got better as the series went on and he was up against it TBH with the Clarkson fan-base praying for it's failure. Sticking my neck out here but I thought Evans was good as at least he was enthusiastic. The latest series? Hhmmm, ok but a bit forced on humour but at least they talk a bit about cars.
bring back Noel Edmonds, he was better than Hammond

Agreed, Evans did get better as the series went on, but it was from awful as a start point all the way up to rubbish at the end!I thought the 'Evans' programmes got better as the series went on and he was up against it TBH with the Clarkson fan-base praying for it's failure. Series 2 indeed much better but they need to get away from the old format as it will just constantly be compared. Like the idea of a more powerful car rather than a cheap car though. TGT needs to drop the script,'Conversation Corner' and 'Celebrity Brain Crash' (who the f*ck thought that up!) Get a stig and not a TW@T and pay the director of photography a st load more money as the imagery/photography/visual innovation is superb!
I thought it was a bit hit and miss tonight
I liked the db11 segment (but I'm biased). But the interview and the muck-spreader bit would have been fast-forwarded if I had this on catch-up. Then it picked up again with the Golf review
The one thing that impressed me though was their criticism of the fiat 124. I thought they could have gone for the easy option and just said it was ok. But in the end they took the braver option of being quite downbeat on it. No attempt to suck up to Fiat

+1 albeit the rest of the show was bloody boring. They seriously need to DUMP this star in a car crap as it just wastes good time which could have been spent featuring another car or better still have a classic car feature each week instead.

Great review and advertising for the DB11 on Top Gear tonight
I quite enjoyed it last night, and thought the DB11 article was very nicely done with just enough humour (did anyone else think Chris Harris looked more like Mini-Me than Blofeld?).
The muck spreader bit was a little OTT to me. Impressive though the machine was - it might have been better if they'd shown the machine being used in its actual environment too. The show doesn't all have to be about road machinery.
Star in a car interview was too long and forced. The track bit is OK as an interlude, and I like the way they show Harris in the car with them to start with (though that's probably over the line of being forced).
I'll happily watch next week if I get time. I have not felt that about Top Gear for years. Once the three presenters gel just that touch more, I think it will work well.
