Ouch! I was looking into replacing the brightwork on my V12V with the "stealth" look matte black look. But for £2,000 for parts alone I may look into wrapping...
I believe a few people have had the window trims wrapped in black and it works well. Two grand is just bloody stupid.......that's an example of taking of the piss in my book biggrin

Are there a good number of independents you'd trust with your Aston? I dont have one yet (looking for a 4.7 manual roadster) and it is a bit if a concern on maintenance costs. With porsche and BMW they are plentiful enough, and are so accepted by owners for service history (as at least as good as and sometimes more knowledgeable than the dealers, for older cars anyway) that you'd find the dealers price-matching rather than lose the trade
I have a 4.7 Manual roadster (which might be for sale soon...) and it is looked after by Bamford Rose (and indeed has their stage 1 upgrade pack) and I can highly recommend them. I've previously had Porsches and maintenance / servicing costs on the V8V are very similar, in fact a touch lower so far.

No.
This is exactly the same product a lot of the time
That is correct - I had many cases where I bought exactly the same part for a fraction of the price.
Often you can clearly see the cast-in "OEM" logo or "OEM" serial number grinded away,
as the real manufacturers are not allowed to sell the parts with it in place.

Moderators are very quiet, maybe one of them works for the AM parts dept??

Pity we can't get hold of the folder AM had in the factory with a list of all the parts that were taken from Ford/Volvo & Mazda.

Anyway here are all the parts I think you can get cheaper, this is based on an early DB9 -

Sparkplugs, NGK 5598 - £5.00 each - https://www.gsparkplug.com/1x-ngk-platinum-spark-p...

2-pin Ignition coils are NGK U5031 and they can be brought for £12 each. (Identical but the rubber boots and springs just need changing over) - https://www.gsparkplug.com/1x-ngk-ignition-coil-u5...

PCV Valves are a Ford part EV152, roughly £10 each.

Lamda sensors, if you look on the NGK parts online site, the 4 sensors at the cats are -

https://www.ngkpartfinder.co.uk/car_commercial_ext... - So they are £55 each from Opie oil, - https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-81474-ntk-lambda-sens...
The downstream ones are a different part number but are roughly the same price.

I get Mobil 0-40 oil from Opie oil for around £40 per 5 litres.

The cabin filters can get brought for around £10 from ebay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Blue-Print-ADJ132520-Ca...

The Air filters are blue print £20 from ebay -
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Air-Filter-Set-Fits-Ast...

The side repeaters came from a Ford Transit van, they are identical apart from a tiny plastic piece thats inside which you don't see just needs trimming off with a stanley knife and it then fits perfectly.

The radiator from AM is about £850, I found the identical one for £700, this is manufactured by the same company who supply AM.

The brake discs can be brought cheaper getting Brembo discs, plus the pads, you can get EBC Yellow stuff for £280 front and rear, and the handbrake pads from EBC are only £30.

The wheel bearings can be sourced for around £180 each - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/First-Line-Wheel-Bearin...

The window wipers are standard Bosch fitment, nothing special there.

So when you look at the above prices of these parts and bear in mind there is already a mark up and profit on these prices it just goes to show how completely ripped off we are getting when ordering the genuine AM part.

Can't think of anything else but if I think of anything i'll let you know, please feel free to add your own.

Probably not worth quoting very long posts as it makes the thread more challenging to read !

An excellent idea to create a reference list.

Have any of you tried to contact the moderators, to ask what might be possible (sticky etc.)?
They can be contacted using the Report link, but that might not be an appropriate way to communicate about this matter.

'Twas always thus. I used to own a 1971 DBS V8 and the some of the parts were common from other, common cars... but they never went wrong,. When did you need to change the rear lights?? So kmowing they came fro a hillam hunter was of little use.

They would often modify the parts they got in befroe fitting. The exterior door handles, for example were very close fo the Commer van, but were modified...

Then the brake calipers were form the Muira. Whats cheaper? Aston or Lambo??

The mechanical fuel injection was used by Mercedes, but when they used Aston for their parts supplies you knew you were in trouble...

I have always had the opinion that yes, they do take the mick, but they are in the market to sell cars and make a profit, and I expect its a case of of you can afford a new one, you can afford the parts. So they charge accordingly. Annoying for those who can never afford a new car? Of course. Understandable? I think so... Great if you can find the same part for cheaper, elsewhere?? Of course..

I cant believe how high the dealers and some online genuine parts suppliers charge for some parts

For example

NGK coils are £12, genuine £100
Lambda sensor £40 genuine £200
Sparkplugs are outrageous
Brake pads and discs are at least double price

Loads of parts like service items are ridiculous.

Dont know what you all think but if i can get an equivalent item for less price i will as i try to get value for money

I just dont know how they can justify these prices.
Had to buy a £1,400 headlight for a Vantage once because of faulty headlight motor frown made me realise the car was unnecessarily expensive to maintain.

Headlamps for a Mondeo are more than that and some BMW ones are over £2000 each, even standard 1series are £650 each.

The latest spec gearbox oil is available from most motor factors at less than half price and the transmission filter is a washable screen.

There is a filler/level plug on the transmission that just needs a funnel and a length of hose threaded through the rear wheel to add the oil whilst the car is level on the ground.

Quite a while ago but I did the job for a fraction of the £750 dealer cost.

If we can't get Mods to do it I could possibly host a page with downloadable excel sheet but it would mean manual updates which is less than ideal.

This is a fantastic post, huge thanks to Paulrog for his time in giving us all the links - hopefully we’ll all benefit from this.

I’ll be using an AM independent for servicing - not sure how they’ll feel about me turning up with a boot-load of parts I’ve bought online for them to fit but guess that’s not my problem?!

I’m on 63k miles so the dreaded spark/coil change is due imminently. Guess I’ll get the PCV valves done at the same time then engine-wise I should be safe.

It will be I'm afraid. Most garages aren't going to let you do what you describe.

If your going to get your own parts for the garage to fit I would let them know first, they might refuse or just ask you to sign a disclaimer upon collection.

I do all my servicing and repairs myself so I don't have this problem.

Does anyone know if the headlamp washers are 3rd party?
One of my covers has broken and I don't want to shell out 40 quid for a bit of plastic if I can help it :-)
