I think you guys both misunderstand.
My comments are with reference to the numerous articles that are coming out about the AMV8. And where they are pitching it.
Yes some people will be going from a C2S to an Aston. And yes its percieved reliability (because Porsche and MB have had plenty of problems recently), thats why I said rightly or wrongly.
IMO its not C2 buyers that will largely be buying the Aston. Its just a leap too far for most price wise. And the type of user who buys the C2 will also go with the car they percieve to be more reliable. I don't think many of you will disagree with that.
I really want to see a more meaningfull analysis. And your only going to see that when people and journalists acknowledge the car is no longer pitched at the base 911.
Either review it in isolation. Or review it against its real competition. But the "AMV8 beats 911" only to find its pitched against the C2 strikes me as laughable miopic flag waving.
Anyway i'll leave it now, since we're just going over the same thing over and over.

i like it it looks a great car allthough i agree with whats been said before it would be good if the range were not styled so similairly, and while the power output is good 380 is hardly low is it? what isnt so good is the weight they should have aimed for 1400kg
also the vantage tag they should keep that for hot versions of the car not use it as model name in its own right all these gt / gts etc monikers for faster astons dont sound as good as the vantage tag which has a long history

the new AMV8 is *not* the first AM to have a hatchback. this claim is factually incorrect. As stated elsewhere, the DB2/4 was.
sorry Jon , lack of linking to a reply had me off on one there. I'll be getting me coat, apologies

just a quick question for stanman (?) why did the 911 you specced have to have pccb but the aston doesn't.... surely this makes it more £70k v £83k? porker brakes are stonking as stnd.
me, i'd like the aston, but not with those doors! yuk. its a thing of beauty but the price is slightly off the mark, and the performance definitely is. Aston have done this on purpose to screw people for money, the vantage you really want will be the super/turbocharged one, probably costing near 100k. Then you're into a whole new ball game, souped up amv8 or db9....

Ceramic brakes are not available for the amv8 at present. So a like for like comparison would be different. However, these are the kind of things that I would purchase for a 911 if am to purchase one (PCCB, X51 380hp kit). I wouls also want a full natural leather interior and as little cheap plastic as possible.....
All companies are out to make money, so I don't feel AM are screwing anybody - people will pay what they can afford. Porsche are the worlds most profitable sports car company, the profit margin on the 911 is likely to be far in excess of that of the AMV8, considering the 911's architecture is so close to the boxster.
Compared to the db9 and vanquish, I actaully fell I'm getting a bargain.....
All that extra horsepower is academic when your speed limit is 70 mph......

yeah, but when you're getting left at the lights, by £20k Evos etc, I'd be disappointed with the power to weight.!
I think if they were to just badge it as a V8, then fine everyone would appreciate that it's just a GT..
but using the "Vantage" badge, and using under-endowed ponies, is belittling the marque.
IMHO
Rob
I think I've grown up enough to avoid racing youths in tin-pot cars at the lights. If I am really worried I strap a tin of nitrous to it.
What is this obsession with being the fastest car off thw lights- are ego's that fragile these days?

i'd rather be in the amv8 at the lights
i just wonder what this car could of become if they put the price nearer 65, i'm guessing porker 911 sales would get murdered, basic of 65+options so 70k. now that is the amv8 we all want. would of thought it would give them a bigger gap to price up to the v12 for hot versions of the v8.
as for the doors, i just don't like the way they angle upwards. looks odd. prefer stnd doors, gullwings, and scissors to these. (IMHO!) anyhow, for those lucker bugg*rs who are getting one, enjoy it.

I doubt it. The 911 is a wonderfully simple design which is why Porsche is able to refine it so often and still keep it fresh. Do you not feel the 2-seater Caymen is more of a competitor than the venerable 911?
LA , you wanna pop down specsavers mate. Get those bins sorted
