The DB9 is so not worth while compared to the Vanquish wich imho is king nothing matches it in style and road presence .

Is the reason of the end of production because Handmade cars are not in fords bag (baby)?

The Vanquish is a great car no doubt, but the DB9 is much more sophisticated. The paddle gearbox has been a problem since it was launched (q.v. Top Gear) To be offered a manual conversion for 14 grand at this point seems like an insult to be honest, particularly when the Jag XK has got a superior ZF paddle shifter at a third of the price. Although it is a classic shape with its echoes of the DB4GT Zagato, don't you think it is looking just a little dated now? The DBS is a stunning car, we know that already.

Wonderful car and an Aston landmark, last of the Newport Pagnell cars etc, but it would be a brave man who laid out £182k on this, ultimate black or not.

The car looks just absolutely gorgeous. Brutal yet sophisticated. A shame that engineering quality does not live up to what looks suggest...

Indeed, a Vanquish stands out in a crowd, wheras already the DB9 is a rather familiar sight already!

Not saying the DB9 isn't pretty or good, but something makes the Vanquish worth more in my opinion. Probably the price ensures rarity, but it does somehow look more mean and like it'll eat the road up

Put me down a convert to the Vanquish.

The styling never agreed with me originally, but over the last 18 months or so I have really started to lust after them. After my cpl of test drives in them and in particular the S, I can only say...wow!

The DB9 and AMV8 are just nancy boys in comparison.

The last of the line? What a shame. I'm going around the factory at the beginning of March. I wonder if these will be made then..

I guess you will be going to Gaydon but the Vanquish is made at Newport Pagnall so you'll be seeing Vantage & DB9 only

No, I'm going around Newport Pagnall. The Gaydon visits are later on in the year.

Order of merit on the current range

V8 Vantagge by far the best looking

and then a draw between the Vanquish and DB9 (mainly over price, the DB9 is better value for money)

Having said that if the Vanquish was at say £135k then i would have one on my drive tomorrow

The Vanquish was made in very limited numbers no more than 300 a year worldwide. Newport Pagnell is closing (apart from the works service dept) and so everything will be moved to Gaydon esp as the DBS and 4 dr are DB9 derived. It also makes sense with the proposed sell off to have evryting under one roof. I have driven a Vanquish many times both on and off track and they are absolutely fabulous cars. Incidentally the white one which has been seen in the press is Perlescent white being used by Ulrich Bez.

So whats the SP on the paddle gearbox which Clarkson used to whine would never change when it was supposed to, and I recall that Vicki B-H complained that on launch starts, which I admit is an idiot's game, the body flexed so much that it jumped out of gear?

The original gearbox in the Vanquish had megga probs with gear changes....I am lead to believe this was caused by contamination in the transmission fluid from the Goodridge transmission pipes. This was sorted for later cars.

We are pleased to be in the envious position to be the only company to offer for sale No. 39 of 40 Aston Martin Vanquish S Ultimate

We have just completed a sale for No. 38 so this will be the last available before the crazy premiums kick in (expected to be in the region of £30,000!) as Aston Martin comes home to the UK

‘Aston Martin Celebrates Flagship Vanquish Model

Aston Martin has announced two exciting developments for both new and existing customers of the company's flagship Vanquish S.

Just 40 examples of a new Vanquish S Ultimate Edition will be handcrafted at the company's Newport Pagnell production facility in Buckinghamshire. The model represents a luxurious and unique limited edition befitting the Vanquish S's status as the ultimate Aston Martin and also celebrates the skilled craftsmanship of the team working at Newport Pagnell.

The Ultimate Edition will be available by special request to customers wishing to celebrate the last of a significant car in Aston Martin's history. Initial feedback suggests the whole allocation of this special edition will be sold within weeks of launch.’

List price of £184,025 + £15,000

Just a bizarre post. Seems utterly pointless to me.

"The only company offering No 39". Unless No 39 has been cloned like Dolly The Sheep isn't this kind of obvious.

"Aston comes home to the UK"? When has it been away?

"..before the crazy premiums kick in". Wow, lucky you've dodged that bullet by only asking 15k over list.

I can assure you all that is his real name. I've met him when visiting Newport Pagnell on my introduction to Aston Martin (for my apprenticeship. He's a fantatic man, he even gave me some 3" switches for my mini when i told him i had bucket seats fitted. Just randomly walked upstairs to his office, seconds later was back saying "you might be able to use these" . A real gentleman
