RE: PistonHeads scoops new Aston Martin

Is it just me that thinks this isn't going to be the DBS but actually the road going version of the DBRS9 GT3 racecar? (Despite what the article says)
I'd have thought that way it markets in quite nicely as they can pitch the race versions for the trackday/racing market alongside the road version.
I'm probably entirely wrong mind.
But then, when it looks that bloody good, who cares what it's monickered as? It could have a Reliant badge on it for all I'd care!

I was hoping the article might explain it's reasoning for believing this to be the DBS. Looks like a DB9 in a (rather nasty) body kit, and nothing (much) more.
I actually do not like it. I like my Astons to be smoothe and svelte...this one looks like the kind of Aston that a Max Power reader would produce.
Sorry!

I don't get it? A range topper which is the DB9 with body kit and extra nice bits? Not a different model is it really?
My thought too.
Why not just call it the "DB9 Vantage"
Who said it was a different model?
It says it is taking over from the Vantage but that was a different model completely. This is a replacement model which is a DB9 with lots added. Just seems a little odd?
Any words on pricing? If it's going to hit then Vanquish's £170k then I'd be expecting a bit more than some carbon body bits, an extra 70bhp, and a new centre console.
It seems to be in a bit of a no man's land. It is obviously a DB9, although with very sexy addenda and faster, but I can't imagine Aston being happy that the replacement for the Vanquish flagship would be a DB9 superleggera, or Challenge Stradale, if you will.
My hope is that the man from Aston is right it's not the Vanquish replacement, it's a holdover until the real thing arrives. I don't know about you but I've always loved (and I mean loved) Aston for being British (engineered at least), looking gorgeous and sounding symphonic, but I've always been disappointed that in all the comparisons they seem to place behind the Italians and Germans, from the Vanquish being less polished than the 575 HGTC on Top Gear, to the DB9's weak turn in problem and slow gearchange on launch in EVO, to the DB9 Sportpack's dismal placing in ECOTY last year.
What I want so badly is to see an Aston to kick the LP640 & 599 GTB's arse: take the v12 to 6.5l, tune it to 620bhp, build a cutting edge lightweight chassis and get Prodrive to direct the setup from beginning. Now that's what I'm talking about... (Cue 'land of hope and glory')

I saw the same thing yesterday evening heading into Northampton at the M1/A45 junction, and ran with it up the A45, sat beside it at the lights as it went off to the right. The one I saw was black with silver DBRS9 badging on a 56 plate with black leather. It had the same wheels, body kit, rear diffuser etc. I was supprised how quiet it was in traffic and pulling away from the lights, certainly no unsilenced racer with stripped out interior and roll cage.
Looks very tasty up close though.

It looks awesome but...
The front wheel arches are starting to look a little like a Mazda RX8

Not really, the designers have just tried to add a little more tension in the front wings. I think it looks good. The rear body-coloured diffuser is nice too. I reckon it looks better than if it were black as it's more subtle. Overall, it's a bloody good looking car. Can't think of a more aesthetically pleasing production car in the World to be honest.

I was under the impression the DBS was pretty much the road going version of the DBRS9 just with some extra creature comforts thrown in?
Being an Aston I'm pretty sure you could order a stripped out racing version made road legal if you really wanted one, they will pretty much customise any part of the car if you are willing to stump up the dosh.

Thank god, its not just me.
Reminds me of the sort of awful bodykit paramount put on Jag XK8/XKR's
If I was in the market for a true sportscar in that price range I'd be far more tempted by the LP640 or 599GTB.
Lets hope the Rapide stays true to the sort of Aston styling I love.

...and indeed leewaawoowaar !
or in English.." Whilst there are certain criticisms, expressed on this web forum which may or may not be valid, there is nevertheless an undeniable appeal of the visual nature allied to a the impact of raw power and presence. These factors when combined would tend towards rendering the writer in favour of the said vehicle"!
Much prefer Leewaawoowar however. Verry Niiccee.
Not a fan. Looks like a DB9, a wonderful styling exrecise, with some crappy bodykit on. Front spolier does look like a Paramount Jag and the rear diffuser doesn't appear to be functional. I think they'll need more than this as a Vanquish replacement, given the stuff Ferrari is chruning out at the top end (599).
