Since my roadster's on its way, I've been reading up on the sportshift but not found anything about Launch Control. Does the sportshift have this feature, and if not, from those of you that have driven a V8 with sportshift, how do you go about getting a good quick launch with say 3000 rpm ?

Regards,

Matt.

Not that I'm aware of in the brief drive I had.

Interesting question though, and I don't know.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't these robotised manuals pop the clutch in when revved up in neutral? I'm sure I've read that somewhere.....

Humm, spoke to the dealer and they said you just floor it from standstill, like a true auto, but i'm not convinced seeing as we generally need a bit of rev's to start with on the V8 to get it going at a traffic light GP. (for instance)

Thread on the AMOC site suggests one mag made poor standing start acceleration figures (http://www.amoc.org/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=118). I wonder...

I wonder too.

The suspense is killing me, wink so unless I hear otherwise ill be nipping up to the dealer next week to try this for myself in the demo car as I could see this being a major week point in the sportshift cars.

Hi, my dealer gave me a copy of their "sport-shift" idoits guide...it says.....

Launch Control:

To obtain the fatest possibile acceleration away from standstill, the following parameters are required:

- Transimssion in "sport" paddle shift mode

- Traction control turned off (hold DSC button for 4 secs)

- 1st gear selected

- Greater than 90% throttle applied in less than 0.5 secs

If the parameters are met the system will raise the engine rpm to 5,000 rpm and close the clutch. If these parameters are maintained the system wil make an automated upshift for 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd at 7100 rpm. The remaining upshifts will be made at 7300 prm.

As an FYI the document also addresses:

Hypershift:

To obtain the fatest possible upshifts the following parameters are required, a) be in "sport" mode, b) be over 5000 rpm, and c) have 80% throttle opening

And finally,

Speeds in each gear:

Maximum Speed in each gear (paddle shift sports mode)

- 1st = 47mph

- 2nd = 75mph

- 3rd = 104mph

- 4th = 130mph

- 5th = 160mph

- 6th = 175mph

As my sportshift is only three weeks young, i cannot confirm if their literature is true or not

So turn off traction control, select first then instantly mash the throttle.

Cool.

Wonder if the jockeys on the magazines mentioned on the AMOC site did the mashing bit quick enough.

Possibly not.

I'm only 300mls or so from the 1k inspection. Once this milestone is out of the way, then i'll report back with my findings (and damage report) biggrin

Having now used launch control I can see why some of the magazines got slow 0 to 60 times.

I was on a nice flat new bit of road and activated LC, which dropped the clutch at 5000rpm and auto changes the gears, however the end result was the wheels spinning, back end all over the place and not really going anywhere. Although quite impressive to show your mates and an easy way to eat tyres, but its not the quickest way to 60mph unless your on grippy surfaces it seems.

I'm surprised. Would expect the clutch to break first doing this.

Video of when it happened:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G49wZ-laKxU

Street was closed for a film shoot, so was legal

Also, pics of the devastation:

Very disappointed in this car, a total let down and a turn off for the brand entirely.
